Jordan, Egypt, Iraq sign MoU in industrial integration

Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Youssef Al-Shamali and his Egyptian counterpart Nevin Jameh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in industrial integration domain between Jordan, Egypt and Iraq. The Iraqi government will ink the MoU during the coming period.

Signing the agreement, which comes on the sidelines of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II’s visit to Egypt, was based on the outcomes of the tripartite summit held in Jordan last year which emphasized the importance of implementing a package of cooperation projects between the three countries in addition to bolstering partnership, coordination and joint strategic integration.

In a statement on Thursday, Al-Shamali affirmed Jordan’s keenness to boost joint relations with Egypt, noting that both countries maintain distinguished and deep-rooted ties. He also indicated that the Crown Prince’s visit to Egypt comes as part of strengthening Jordanian-Egyptian cooperation, and preparing for a new phase of economic integration.

“During the ceremony, the two ministers reviewed progress made towards deepening cooperation between Jordan, Egypt and Iraq, highlighting the importance of building on the talks and negotiations that took place during the past months, and reaching a general framework to achieve joint economic integration, remove any obstacles hindering the flow of trade, and stimulate the three countries’ private sector in order to launch more economic partnerships,” the statement added.

UK urges Iran to back plan to revive agreement

The UK has urged Iran to back a deal that would revive the international agreement curbing the country’s nuclear activities, at a meeting in London.

Under the original 2015 deal, Iran said it would curb its nuclear ambitions in return for other countries lifting economic sanctions.

The agreement collapsed when the US pulled out in 2018, but U.S. President Joe Biden has said it could rejoin.

Talks are set to resume in Vienna on 29 November after a four-month hiatus.

Ahead of those talks, Iran’s deputy foreign minister and lead negotiator, Ali Bagheri Kani, came to the UK Foreign Office to set out his country’s demands.

Jordan, Kuwait fund sign loan, grant agreements worth $80m

Jordan and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) have signed two development aid agreements with a total value of $89 million, including 20 million in grants and 60 million in loans, at the fund’s headquarters on Thursday.

According to a Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation statement, under the agreement, the fund provides Jordan with a loan of $60 million to develop the Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Terminal in Aqaba, which is used to pump liquefied natural gas.

The fund also offered Jordan a grant of $20 million to finance the Jordan Response Plan (JRP) to the Syrian Crisis in the health sector.

The agreements were signed by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh and KFAED Director-General Marwan Al-Ghanem.

PM lands in Dubai for Expo 2020

Heading a ministerial delegation, Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh landed in Dubai on Thursday to participate in the Expo 2020 Dubai for two days.

Under the motto “The Thresholds of Ingenuity”, Jordan’s pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai highlights national achievements in many fields, in addition to cooperation and opportunities prospects to partner with various sectors in Jordan.

The Prime Minister will make a speech on Friday to showcase the government’s procedures to uplift the work and investment environments and enhance the competitiveness of the Kingdom’s economy.

The ministerial delegation includes the Minister of State for Prime Minister Affairs, Ibrahim Jazi, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yousef Shamali, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Ahmad Hanandeh, and Minister of Investment Khairy Amr.

The Expo 2020 Dubai, which exhibits 195 pavilions from 195 countries, was originally scheduled for 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021, but was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
