King, in phone call, discusses ties with Japan PM

His Majesty King Abdullah, in a phone call with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio on Monday, discussed the deep-rooted ties between Jordan and Japan and means of bolstering the strategic partnership between them.

King Abdullah reaffirmed keenness to continue expanding bilateral cooperation, in the best interest of the two countries and peoples.

Discussions also covered the latest regional and international developments of mutual concern.

FAO workshop on survey tools, operational information exchange kicks off

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in Jordan, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, on Sunday launched a workshop entitled Survey Tools and Operational Information Exchange and Support Materials.

The tool for operational control and information exchange with both the World Organisation for Animal Health and the World Health Organisation had been developed to support local authorities in their efforts to establish and strengthen a coordinated multi-sectoral system for monitoring and exchanging data on zoonoses, according to a FAO press release.

FAO representative in Jordan Nabil Assaf said that animal health is entirely linked to food security and nutrition and the achievement of many sustainable development goals, especially those related to improving production, eradicating poverty and hunger, ensuring a healthy life for all, and managing risks at the level of interaction between animals, humans and plants.

For his part, FAO Assistant Secretary-General for Livestock Ali Abu Nukta said that the Agriculture Ministry is preparing a database on the application of the monitoring and data sharing tool within a coordinated system by various health authorities for the purpose of exchanging information on common diseases and making improvements in frameworks, strategies and policies to combat them, and promptly identifying common diseases inside Jordan, as well as supporting coordinated prevention, response and control efforts.

The three-day workshop was held under the patronage of Agriculture Minister Khaled Hnaifat with the participation of stakeholders and government partners.

China’s Shanghai sees record-high growth in foreign trade in 2021

China’s economic hub Shanghai registered a record import and export volume of 10.09 trillion yuan (about 1.58 trillion U.S. dollars) in 2021, up 15.4 percent year on year, local authorities said on Sunday.

According to data released by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, the city’s export volume totaled 5.74 trillion yuan last year, up 15.2 percent on a yearly basis. Meanwhile, its import volume increased by 15.6 percent to reach 4.35 trillion yuan.

The trade surplus was widened by 13.9 percent to 1.39 trillion yuan during the same period.

In 2021, the port of Shanghai notched up an annual container throughput of more than 47 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs), while over 32.2 million passengers traveled through the Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Enditem.

Fuel derivative prices maintained for February

The government’s fuel pricing committee on Monday decided to maintain the prices of oil derivatives for February.

Accordingly, the price-per-litre of 90-octane gasoline has stood at JD0.85 and 95-octan at JD1.085, while diesel and kerosene prices maintained at JD0.615 per litre. The price of the gas cylinder also remained at JD7.

This decision came during the committee’s monthly meeting to set the prices of selling oil derivatives locally for the period 1-28 February.
