PM dismisses claims gov’t misuses national resources

Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh Monday dismissed as “mere fabrications and an utter lie” allegations by “a few haters of the country” that the government had used national resources contrary to the Jordanian constitution and legislation.

In comments during a Lower House session, Khasawneh hailed “a collective sense of responsibility” by both legislative and executive authorities in responding to such allegations, that are “entirely false, and are not worthy of us as government, House of Representatives and vast majority of the people of this honorable homeland.”

Jordan is a state of institutions and law that upholds the national fundamentals and maximizes national capabilities to uplift the country according to the constitution and legislation, he said.

“No one can outbid the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, neither the people nor the leadership or the legislative and executive authorities,” he warned.

Jordan, Tunisia talk economic, trade cooperation

Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA) President Hamdi Tabbaa met Tunisian Ambassador Khalid Suhaili on Monday to discuss prospects for boosting joint investments and increasing two-way trade.

During the meeting, Tabbaa pointed to the possibility of drawing up an action plan with Tunisia, which has good relations with African countries, to increase the chance of Jordanian products to access the continent.

The Jordanian-Tunisian ties significantly grew in the past few years, he emphasized, pointing to the Jordanian-Tunisian Business Council’s key role in this regard.

Tabbaa called on the Tunisian business community to visit Jordan and look firsthand at investment opportunities, pointing to the Kingdom’s strategic location and political and financial stability as well as free trade agreements it signed with Arab and foreign countries.

For his part, the Tunisian envoy reaffirmed the deep-rooted ties with Jordan, commending the JBA’s role in strengthening economic relations between the two nations.

He underscored the embassy will keep channels open with the JBA and cooperate with it in holding events, particularly the periodic meetings of the Jordanian-Tunisian Business Council.

Trade exchange between the two countries amounted to USD23 million in 2020, about 9.1 million of which were exports of pharmaceuticals, electric tools, and fertilizers, while imports constituted 13.9 million of inorganic chemicals, fish, machinery, and electrical equipment.
