Ambassador of the European Union Maria Hadjitheodosiou underlined that the European Union continues to support Jordan within the existing partnership between them.
Hadjitheodosiou pointed out during a press conference held Wednesday, the importance of the 14th meeting of the Jordan-EU Association Council held last June in the Dead Sea and the outcomes of the meeting to serve and boost cooperation and partnership between Jordan and the EU.
She highlighted the priorities of the partnership with Jordan for the coming years, which include: regional stability and security, economic stability, promotion of good governance, democratic reforms and human rights, development of renewable energy, energy efficiency and water resources management.
Lauding Jordan’s reforms in key sectors, she said funding will be directed to support the Kingdom’s efforts in green and digital transformation, addressing unemployment, especially among youth and women, good governance, stimulating entrepreneurship, improving social protection, helping the most vulnerable groups, and keeping pace with political reforms.
Hadjitheodosiou stressed the importance of the investment platform between Jordan and the European Union, which was launched on the sidelines of the 14th Association Council meeting between the Kingdom and the European Union, in bringing investments to the Kingdom, noting that this platform is being followed up at all levels.
She stressed the importance of the humanitarian role that Jordan plays in receiving, hosting and serving Syrian refugees, stressing the European Union’s commitment to helping Jordan shoulder the consequences of hosting refugees. She expressed happiness at seeing Syrian refugees begin to return to their country.
During the press conference, the EU ambassador touched on the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian war on Jordan and the world in various sectors, underscoring the EU’s support for Jordan to mitigate the repercussions and effects of this war.
She also voiced support for the two-state solution and the importance of re-negotiations, noting that the Russian-Ukrainian war had repercussions on this area as well.
The European Union, she stated, continues to make efforts to achieve peace and address the financial situation of the Palestinian Authority, pointing to the importance of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees’ role in serving a large group of Palestinian refugees.
