Exports of factories and businesses registered with the Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) picked up by 53 percent to JD6.261 billion in the first ten months of 2022, compared with JD4.096 billion in the same period in 2021, according to a report released by the Chamber on Tuesday.

In its report, the Chamber said that most industrial sectors saw an increase in exports during the January-October period, ranging between 3 percent for the construction sector, and 105 percent for the higher-growth mining industries.

This rise indicates that the Chamber’s exports will reach an unprecedented historical figure by the end of this year, and the ability of the Jordanian industry to overcome difficulties and competition in the export markets, the Chamber confirmed.

The Jordanian industrial products are exported to over 142 countries around the world, with about 1,400 various commodities.

India, the U.S., Saudi Arabia and Iraq accounted for more than half of the Chamber’s exports during the first 10 months of the current year, registering a value of JD3.296 billion.

According to statistical data, the Chamber’s exports to India rose during the first ten months of 2022 to JD1.299 billion, compared to JD727 million for the same period last year, an increase of 79 percent.

The Chamber’s exports to the U.S. slightly dropped by 1 percent in the January- October period of this year to reach JD824 million, compared to JD829 million for the same period in 2021.

The Chamber’s data also showed that its exports increased during the 10-month of 2022 to Saudi Arabia by 32 percent, hitting about JD627 million, compared to JD473 million for the same period last year.

The Chamber’s exports to Iraq also rose during the reporting period to about JD546 million, compared to JD443 million for the same period last year, a 23 percent increase.

The Chamber’s exports to Syria recorded a 44 percent increase during the reporting period at JD107 million, compared to JD74 million last year. Exports to Palestine also increased by 22 percent, reaching JD145 million during the reporting period, compared to JD119 million for the same period in 2021.

The mining industries contributed JD2.225 billion to exports, followed by the chemical and cosmetics industries with JD1.279 million and the engineering, electrical, and information technology industries with JD747 million.

The export value of the catering, food, agricultural, and livestock industries reached JD587 million, followed by the therapeutic industries and medical supplies sector with JD493 million, the leather and textile industries with JD388 million, and the packaging, paper, cardboard, and office supplies industries with JD237 million.

Exports from the plastic and rubber industries totaled JD214 million, and the construction industries reached JD73 million, while exports from the wood and furniture industries hit JD17 million.

The Amman Chamber of Industry was established in 1962 and now has 8,600 industrial members employing 159,000 people. The combined capital of ACI-registered businesses is approximately JD5 billion.

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Monday announced that it approved the establishment of three new national manufacturing innovation centers.

The ministry said the innovation centers, backed by research or tech firms in Zhejiang, Jiangxi, and Sichuan provinces, will focus on graphene, virtual reality, and ultra-high-definition video industries, respectively, noting that they will also concentrate on key generic technologies and enhance technological research and development in these industries.

The ministry also indicated that It would guide the new manufacturing innovation centers to improve their abilities to seek technological innovation to provide strong support for the high-quality development of primary fields in manufacturing.

The prices of gasoline in global markets have risen in the first week of November, while the prices of diesel and kerosene have dropped, according to data released on Tuesday by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

The ministry’s figures showed that the price of 90-octane gasoline went up by 3.8 percent, going from $774.9 per ton in October to $804.6 in November, while the price of 95-octane gasoline rose from $810.5 per ton to $852.7 per ton, an increase of 5.2 percent.

Diesel prices dropped by 3.6 percent, going from $1048 per ton to $1009.9, while the prices of kerosene fell by 0.6 percent, from $1030.2 to $1023.5 per ton.

The prices of liquefied gas for November rose to $610 per ton, compared to $567.5 in October.

Meanwhile, Benchmark Brent crude prices also rose in the first week of the current month, from $93.4 to $96.6 per barrel.

Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Youssef Shamali on Tuesday inaugurated the 25th Arab International Cement Conference and Exhibition (AICCE25).

Speaking at the conference, the minister stressed the importance of the AICCE25, which, he indicated, serves as a showcase for the advancements made by the Arab cement industry as well as its competitiveness on the world market.

The conference, which was organized by the Council of Arab Economic Unity, the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Construction, and the Arab Union for Cement and Building Materials (AUCBM), also tackled other issues such as alternative fuels, alternative raw materials, energy saving and carbon emissions reduction.

Shamali stated that discussing such topics demonstrates a trend among companies to comply with environmental requirements and leverage modern manufacturing technologies, emphasizing the significance of the participation of a group of Arab academics and specialists in these fields.

He said the cement industry is constantly evolving in terms of production inputs, design and manufacturing methods, noting that conferences such as this one allow experts to exchange information and expertise, large-sized enterprises to introduce new technology to small-sized enterprises and contractors and manufacturers to network.

On investments in the industry, the minister said that Jordan has about five factories with a total estimated investment of two billion Jordanian dinars and a production capacity of about 11 million tons annually.

Hosting the AICCE25 for this year is part of the Jordanian government’s commitment to supporting and developing quality industries in various fields and encouraging partnerships between the public and private sectors to leverage available opportunities and keep pace with changes and economic and administrative development, he added.

For his part, Chairman of the AUCBM Prince Nayef bin Sultan Al Kabeer said that the Arab cement industry saw major development over the past few decades, with the production capacity of cement factories reaching more than 390 million tons annually.

He stated that although the consumption of cement has been affected over the past two years following internal conflicts in some Arab countries and the shutdown of some factories due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the cement industry began to gradually bounce back. On other construction materials, Prince Nayef pointed out that most Arab countries import them.

On the environmental efforts of the union, he underlined that the AUCBM took part in drawing up the World Business Council For Sustainable Development’s 2050 roadmap to address carbon emissions, preserve the environment and keep the cement industry going.

The Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) and the Turkish Transpet Petroleum and Energy company on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding to study the economic feasibility of establishing a joint factory for phosphoric acid in the Aqaba governorate with a production capacity of 500 tons per day.

The signing of the memorandum follows a visit of a delegation from Transpet to the JPMC and the Turkish company’s willingness to create a joint effective partnership in this area.

The JPMC’s CEO Abdul Wahab Rawad and Transpet’s member of the Board of Directors Mustafa Kor signed the memorandum.

Rawad stressed the importance of this partnership in enhancing the company’s position at the local and international levels, while Mohammad Thneibat, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the JPMC, highlighted the company’s plan to expand manufacturing industries and diversify sources of income as production quantities and exporting to global markets increase.

Meanwhile, Kor expressed the Turkish company’s pride in this partnership, which will strengthen and develop cooperation relations between public and private sector institutions and companies in Jordan and Turkey.
