4 suspected drug dealers arrested

Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) personnel have arrested four suspected drug dealers in possession of 40,000 drug pills and three kilos of crystal substance, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) spokesperson said on Tuesday.

AND agents received a tip-off on the suspect and confirmed information about a person possession of a crystal substance in Ramtha district, and he was arrested along with his accomplice.

In another case, AND agents arrested two suspects, in Zarqa governorate, with the intention of selling and promoting 40,000 pills.

The four suspects were referred to the State Security Court’s prosecutor, the spokesperson added.

PM arrives in Ramallah

Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh on Thursday arrived in Ramallah on an official visit to the West Bank where he is scheduled to meet with his Palestinian counterpart and co-chair the meetings of the Joint Jordanian-Palestinian Higher Committee which will convene in Ramallah today.

Khasawneh said His Majesty King Abdullah II “faithfully” carries out responsibility for extending care to Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, adding that Jordan is confronting any attempts aimed at changing the historical and existing situation in the city.

For his part, the Palestinian PM valued Jordan’s stances, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, in support of the Palestinian cause and care extended to holy sites in Al-Quds Al-Sharif.

He also valued Jordan’s support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and stressed the importance of preserving its symbolism for the refugee issue.

Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Youssef Shamali and the Palestinian Minister of National Economy Khaled Aseeli highlighted outcomes of the Preparatory Committee’s work on the agreed upon mechanisms of cooperation, implementation and follow-up by periodic reports on progress.

The Jordanian and Palestinian sides signed 9 memoranda of understanding and executive programs, at the closing session of Jordanian-Palestinian Joint Higher Committee meetings, which covered many areas.

The two PMs also signed the minutes of the committee’s 6th session meetings.

The agreements signed included a MoU in the field of social development, two executive programs for cultural cooperation for 2022-2025, and educational cooperation for 2022-2024, respectively, and a MoU for cooperation in the free zones fields.

Another MoU on joint electronic interconnection and an executive program of the cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Youth and the Palestinian Supreme Council for Youth and Sports in the youth field were signed.

Moreover, Jordan News Agency (Petra) and the Palestine News and Information Agency (WAFA) signed a joint cooperation program, in addition to an executive program for activating the technical cooperation protocol between Jordan’s Ministry of Investment and Palestinian Investment Promotion Agency (PIPA) and an executive program to carry out the MoU for mutual recognition of conformity certificates.

Transport minister, Palestinian counterpart discuss cooperation

Minister of Transport, Wajih Azaizeh, on Ramallah met in Ramallah with his Palestinian counterpart, Assem Salem, for a discussion on boosting cooperation between the two countries.

Both ministers agreed on the importance of joint cooperation with regard to the use of smart applications, and shifting towards the use of modern technological means, to accommodate developments in this field around the globe, especially since Palestine formed the national team for smart transport, and began preparing studies and recommendations necessary for this transformation.

He stressed that Palestine is a key stop in the regional interconnection project, which will have positive impacts on all countries participating in the project, lauding ties and cooperation between the two countries especially in the field of transportation and communications where all possible accommodations will be provided to facilitate individuals and goods movement through the international crossings of the two countries.

The Palestinian minister commended Jordan’s supportive stances, led by His Majesty King Abdullah, towards Palestine, underlining the deep-rooted and historical relationship between Jordan and Palestine.

IEC invites journalists to apply for elections accreditation

The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Monday invited local and foreign journalists to apply for accreditation to cover the next governorates and municipal elections slated for March next year.

In a statement, the IEC said that those wishing to cover and observe the vote can submit online applications via its official website https://www.iec.jo/ starting Tuesday, noting that the registration window will close on December 12th for local journalists and on December 11th for foreign journalists.

Salih: Cooperation with Kurdish forces needed to defeat Daesh

Iraqi President Barham Salih said Saturday that countering Daesh terror group is the common task of all Iraqis, including close cooperation between the army and Kurdish Peshmerga forces.

Speaking after a deadly attack on the Peshmerga, Salih said in a tweet that Daesh attacks on Peshmerga checkpoints in the town of Mahmour are dangerous, and that confronting them is currently our urgent task.” He stressed that close cooperation between the Iraqi army and the Peshmerga is necessary to eliminate terrorists and bring security in the region.

Ten people, including 7 Peshmerga soldiers and three civilians, were killed Friday in a Daesh attack in Mahmour in northern Iraq.

Foreign Ministry denounces Iraq terrorist attack

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, on Friday, condemned the terrorist attack that took place on the village of Khadirjija in the brotherly Republic of Iraq, which killed and injured in a number of people.

The official spokesman for the Ministry, Ambassador Haitham Abu Alfoul , affirmed the Kingdom’s strong condemnation of this terrorist attack.

He stressed Jordan’s absolute solidarity and standing by Iraq in the face of all that threatens its security and stability, expressing sincere condolences to the families of the victims, and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

Gov’t keen merge people with disabilities into labor market – says Minister

Minister of Labor Nayef Istitiah said that the ministry is keen to merge people with disabilities into the labor market.

Istitiah made his remarks, on Friday, marking the occasion of the International Day of persons with disabilities, which falls today, adding that the ministry has established a department for this social segment since 2015.

He added that according to the Labor Law that came into force in July, 2021, each institution of less than 50 employees has to employ one disabled person, while a 4 per cent rate of people with disabilities should be recorded at institutions with more than 50 employees.

U.S. Senate passes bill to avert government shutdown

The Democratic-controlled U.S. Senate on Thursday passed a bill to fund the government through mid-February, averting the risk of a shutdown after overcoming a bid by some Republicans to delay the vote in a protest against vaccine mandates.

The 69-28 vote leaves government funding at current levels through Feb. 18, and gives Democratic President Joe Biden plenty of time to sign the measure before funding was set to run out at midnight on Friday.

Foreign ministry receives credentials of new Maldivian ambassador

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Secretary-General Yousef Bataineh Wednesday received the credentials of the Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives Mohamed Khaleel as an accredited and non-resident ambassador to Jordan.

During the meeting, Bataineh wished the envoy well in his mission to boost bilateral relations between the two countries.
