China confirms 14 new COVID-19 imported cases

China’s National Health Commission (NHC) on Tuesday announced that 14 new confirmed COVID-19 infections were recorded over the last 24 hours, all of them were imported.

The NHC said in its daily brief that “the 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland reported 25 new asymptomatic cases, all were imported.”

To date, the total COVID caseload on the Chinese mainland has reached 90,783, while the death toll stood at 4,636, according to the commission.

Irbid: over 178K people receive COVID-19 jab

Around 178,295 people in the Irbid governorate have received the COVID-19 vaccine since the start of the national immunization campaign, said Riyad Shayyab, Director of Irbid Health Affairs.

In a statement to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), on Tuesday, Shayyab said that 50,196 people have received the two doses of the vaccine of the total number of people immunized.

On the vaccine turnout rate in the governorate, Shayyab described it as “good” compared to the total number of those who received the vaccine once in the Kingdom. Approximately 865,477 people in Jordan have received the first coronavirus jab, while 351,646 people received two doses of the vaccine.

Gaza: death toll from Israeli aggression rises to 26

The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip said that the death toll from the Israeli aggression, which began on Monday evening, rose to 26.

The Ministry’s latest update on Tuesday afternoon said that among the 26 martyrs were 9 children and a woman, adding that 122 people sustained various wounds following air strikes by the Israeli occupation on the Shejaiya neighborhood, east of Gaza city.

Arab League calls for stopping Israeli aggression

The Arab League, on Tuesday, condemned the Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip, calling on the international community to act immediately to stop the Israeli aggression in Jerusalem, Gaza and all the occupied Palestinian territories.

The League’s Secretary General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, held Israel responsible for this dangerous escalation, stressing that the Israeli violations in Jerusalem and the government’s tolerance of Jewish extremists hostile to Palestinians and Arabs, is what led to the ignition of the situation in this dangerous way.

In a statement by the pan-Arab organization, Aboul Gheit said that the Israeli attacks are “indiscriminate and irresponsible,” and a miserable show of force at the expense of children’s blood. He stated that Israeli provocations, which are still ongoing in Jerusalem, are an affront to Muslims around the world on the eve of the Eid Al Fitr holiday.

Army chief visits Royal Medical Services

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti on Monday urged the Royal Medical Services (RMS) to provide optimal service to citizens so that they can see progress in healthcare.

During a visit to the health facility, Huneiti was briefed by the RMS director on the tasks and duties of his directorate and the measures taken to counter the coronavirus pandemic, noting that a vaccination campaign for members of the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army (JAF) is ongoing.

Huneiti, in the presence of a number of JAF officers, was briefed on the service provided to citizens, urging stepped-up efforts and team work in the next stage to live up to the RMS’s local and regional reputation.

He commended the efforts of medical, nursing and administrative staff during the pandemic, as well as RMS support of the Jordanian health sector, pledging continued JAF support to the Royal Medical Services to fully carry out its duties.

India reports over 400K daily COVID infections

Around 403,738 COVID-19 infections were recorded in India in the last 24 hours, pushing the caseload to some 22.2 million, according to the Delhi News Agency (DNA).

The DNA cited the Health Ministry as saying that COVID-19 claimed the lives of 4,092 people in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll in the subcontinent to 242,362.

WHO: Indian variant accelerating COVID-19 explosion

The Indian COVID-19 is more contagious and deadly than other variants, and may be more resistant vaccines, contributing to the country’s explosive outbreak, said Soumya Swaminathan, the World Health Organization’s chief scientist.

In an interview with an international newspaper Saturday evening, Swaminathan stated that the B.1.617 variant of COVID-19, which was first detected in India last October, was clearly a contributing factor to the catastrophe unfolding in India, the New York Times reported.

India on Saturday for the first time registered more than 4,000 coronavirus deaths in just 24 hours, and more than 400,000 new infections.

Jordan records 29 new COVID deaths, 601 infections on Saturday

Twenty-nine new deaths and 601 cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were recorded in Jordan on Saturday.

With today’s fatalities and infections, the caseload and death toll from the disease have increased to 9,076 and 719,233 respectively, since the outbreak began in March of 2020, according to a joint Prime Ministry and Ministry of Health daily brief.

Amman saw 279 new infections followed by Irbid 151, Mafraq 47, Zarqa 35, Balqa 22, Aqaba 17, Karak 15, Jerash 13, Ajloun 13, Madaba 8, and one case in Ma’an.

The number of cases that required admission to hospitals today stood at 111, while 115 cases have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

According to the brief, the total number of recoveries recorded Saturday, whether at hospitals or at home, stood at 1,731, bringing the total to 701,191 since the outbreak began.

Additionally, the number of cases that are still at hospitals has reached 989.

With regard to testing, 10,098 tests were conducted Saturday, 5.95 per cent of which were positive. The total number of tests conducted since March last year has increased to 6,824,502.

Field hospital in Jerusalem to treat worshipers, as injuries rise to 163 – IFRC

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (IFRC) said, yesterday, a field hospital in the holy city of Jerusalem has been inaugurated to treat the hundreds of injured due to the Israeli assaults on the worshipers there.

In a statement, the IFRC added that the move came due to the mounting numbers of injuries among the Palestinians, which resulted in a great pressure on local hospitals in Jerusalem.

India reports over 412K daily COVID infections

Around 412,000 COVID-19 infections were recorded in India in the last 24 hours, pushing the caseload to some 21.1 million, according to the Delhi News Agency (DNA).

The DNA cited the Health Ministry as saying that COVID-19 claimed the lives of 3,980 people in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll in the subcontinent to 230,168.
