Saudi condemns far-right Israeli minister storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque

Saudi Arabia Tuesday condemned the “provocative” actions of far-right Israeli minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who stormed the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque amid international protest.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Saudi Foreign Ministry said Riyadh is “sorry” that the Israeli authorities had undermined international peace efforts and carried out actions that run counter to international principles and norms in respect of sanctities.

Saudi Arabia reiterated its “firm” support for the Palestinians and efforts to end the decades-long occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Israeli forces kill Palestinian boy in West Bank refugee camp

A 15-year-old Palestinian boy was killed on Tuesday by Israeli forces during a raid of a refugee camp near Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank that sparked clashes with local youths.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said in a statement that the occupation soldiers stormed homes in Dheisheh refugee camp using rubber-coated live bullets, tear gas and stun grenades against local people who confronted them, leaving a boy injured in his chest.

The medical crew transferred the injured to the Beit Jala Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the PRCS added.

Arab parliament condemns far-right Israeli minister storming of Al Aqsa Mosque

The Arab Parliament Tuesday inveighed against Israeli Minister Itamar Ben Gvir’s storming of Al Aqsa Mosque under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.

In a statement, the pan-Arab legislature said, “Attempts to prejudice the historical and legal status of the Islamic and Christian holy places in occupied Jerusalem and undermine the freedom of Muslims to pray in Al Aqsa Mosque are rejected and invalid.”

The statement noted the “need” to respect Jordan’s role in managing, caring for and protecting holy sites under international law. It said the Israeli authorities are responsible, as the occupying power, for preventing “actions or practices targeting the Arab, Islamic and Christian identity of occupied Jerusalem.”

The Arab Parliament urged the international community and the Security Council to assume their responsibilities and protect Palestinians and their religious sanctities.

Police officer wounded in Rum Reserve shooting

Amman, An officer was wounded Monday after a Royal Badia Police patrol came under fire while dismantling illegally erected structures at the Wadi Rum Tourist Reserve.

“A security force of the Royal Badia (desert) Police Command carried out this morning an order to remove structures intruding into the Rum Tourist Reserve, and was confronted by a number of persons who fired shots from their vehicles”, according to the Public Security Directorate’s media spokesman.

He said an officer was wounded and rushed to a local hospital, where he remained under treatment, adding that an investigation into the incident is underway.

The spokesman said the removal order came after trespassers ignored warnings and deadlines to correct their status.

Rubber recycling plant fire kills 2 in Al Muwaqqar

Amman, The Public Security Directorate (PSD) press department Monday said firefighters had put down a fire that broke out in a rubber recycling plant in Al Muwaqqar in eastern Amman.

The PSD said in a statement that the fire had killed two people and injured three others. Medics administered first aid to the injured and transferred them, along with the bodies, to the Al Totangi Hospital.

An investigation was opened into the causes of the fire.

Israeli forces kill 2 Palestinians in Jenin

Ramallah, Two Palestinians were killed and six others were wounded by Israeli forces during an early Monday raid in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, according to the Director-General of Ibn Sina Hospital, Samer Attia.

Violent confrontations erupted between Palestinian youths and Israeli soldiers when large numbers of occupation army troops, accompanied by a military bulldozer, stormed the Kafr Dan village west of the city and surrounded two Palestinian homes.

In 2022, some 224 Palestinian citizens were killed by Israeli fire, including 59 from Jenin.

Police arrest two suspects of drug dealing

Amman, The Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) Monday arrested two suspects of drug dealing after showing resistance and shooting at the police, according to the Public Security Directorate (PSD).

The PSD press department said an AND team had gathered information and monitored the movements of a suspect selling drugs to determine their whereabouts and activities.

The PSD added in a statement that the suspect and an accomplice had been transporting “a large number of narcotic substances” to sell them, noting that the two suspects tried to escape after they were approached by the police and fired directly at officers.

The police arrested them after one of the suspects was injured from the exchange of fire. He was rushed to a hospital. An investigation was opened into the case.

Soldiers injured while defusing ‘old’ phosphorous bombs

Amman, An official military source at the Jordanian Armed Forces Saturday said several soldiers had been injured from inhaling fumes while “dealing” with what he described as old phosphorus explosives at a site where ammunition was destroyed.

He added that several of the team working on defusing the explosives suffered from “shortness of breath”. They were taken to Prince Hashem bin Al-Hussein Hospital, adding that their health condition is “good.”

The source added that one of the cases suffered from second-degree burns in the hands and left leg and was transferred to Al-Hussein Medical City.

The Army General Command wished the injured a speedy recovery and urged Jordanians not to share rumours.

AND nabs 3 drug dealers in Amman-PSD

Amman, Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) agents on Thursday carried out a special security campaign against drug pushers in the capital, Amman, based on information collected about their criminal activities.

In a statement, media spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate (PSD) said a number of raids were carried out and three dealers were arrested in the crackdown.

On the bust details, the official said the first suspect was nabbed with 8 palm-sized sheets of hashish, and an amount of marijuana and cocaine, while the second was arrested in possession of narcotic pills and pieces of hashish intended for sale and a firearm.

The spokesperson added that the third dealer was apprehended with various quantities of narcotic substances prepared for sale.

Gag order on case of Irbid girl’s fatal shooting of 3 family members

Irbid, The Public Prosecutor of Irbid Saturday issued a gag order on the case of a girl who shot dead three members of her family and injured her mother.

The 17-year-old girl is charged with three counts of murder.

The order, a copy of which was obtained by Petra, bans any publications in all media outlets and social platforms on the case or the course of investigations under criminal liability.
