H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed receives student delegation from National Defence College

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has received, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, a delegation of National Defence College students in the presence of Major General Staff Aqab Shahin Aqab Alali, Commandant of the College.

Sheikh Abdullah welcomed the students, urging them to strive hard in their studies at the college, which is one of the most distinguished academic institutions in the country and the region.

Abdullah bin Zayed expressed his wishes to the students for success and distinction in their scientific journey during their studies at the college, stressing their important role in the process of enhancing the nation’s gains, preserving its achievements, and achieving distinction and leadership for the UAE in all fields.

For their part, the delegation of the National Defence College students expressed their happiness at meeting Sheikh Abdullah, expressing their pride in studying at the National Defence College.

Education Ministry: 38,661 teachers received first dose of Covid-19 vaccine so far

Some 9,455 teachers countrywide have received on Wednesday, the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine, bringing the total number of jab recipients from the teaching staff to 38,661 so far.

In a press statement to “Petra,” Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education for Financial and Administrative Affairs, Najwa Qubeilat, said the national campaign to vaccinate teachers, launched by the Ministry of Health in cooperation with National Center for Security and Crisis Management (NCSCM) on May 4th, is “proceeding as scheduled” nationwide, amid a “large” turnout of teachers, who registered on the gov’t platform to receive the vaccine.

Stressing the importance of the teacher immunization drive, she said this effort would help achieve safe return to schools for Jordan’s next academic year, calling on all teachers to register on the gov’t platform designed for this purpose.

ASEZA, Swiss envoy discuss efforts to conserve Aqaba’s eco-diversity

Chief Commissioner of Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZA), Nayef A.Bakheet, discussed on Wednesday, with the Swiss Ambassador in Amman, Lucas Jasser, cooperation in conducting studies on the diverse coral reef communities in the marine reserve in Gulf of Aqaba.

Speaking at the talks, Bakhit stressed the ASEZA’s readiness to cooperate to unearth and conserve new coral types, and to protect the port city’s marine environment from pollution.

In turn, the envoy praised the “distinguished” relations between the two friendly countries in all fields, stressing readiness to cooperate in conducting research aimed to conserve Aqaba’s coral reefs and protect its marine environment.

AI Hussein Technical University, Clarion University of Pennsylvania sign MoU for academic collaboration

In line with its strategic objective of expanding the network of partner universities worldwide, Al Hussein Technical University (HTU), a Crown Prince Foundation initiative, has entered into an agreement with Clarion University of Pennsylvania, one of the state of Pennsylvania’s leading public universities.

The MoU was signed by both universities virtually, via Zoom, on 17 May, represented by Prof. Ismael Hinti, President of HTU, and Prof. Dale-Elizabeth Pehrsson, President of Clarion University of Pennsylvania.

The MoU aims to explore opportunities for collaboration in the creation of faculty, staff, and student exchange programs, sharing of academic materials and other relevant information, the development of joint research projects, and other educational programs and projects of mutual interest.

The MoU also agrees that both institutions develop various collaborative activities of mutual interest, such as student exchanges, academic and administrative personnel exchanges, developing research proposals and working jointly to seek extra-mural funding, in addition to conducting joint symposia, seminar/conferences, and workshops, and permitting HTU students to “stream” into CLARION courses, colloquia, and other learning programs.

Prof. Hinti said that the collaboration between the universities will have a profound impact on HTU international partnerships. “The collaboration with Clarion University not only provides HTU students the opportunity to continue their studies with a well-known university, it further expands our network on a global level. We are confident that this collaboration will benefit technical education in Jordan.”

For her part, the President of Clarion University, Prof Dale-Elizabeth Pehrsson, said, “Clarion University is excited to extend our global partnerships with our colleagues in Jordan. The open exchange of ideas and the opportunities for students, faculty and staff at both institutions demonstrates our commitment to local career preparation with a global perspective. We look forward to leveraging our virtual partnership as it builds to a robust face-to-face program in the future.”

Founded in 1867 as a public university in Clarion, Pennsylvania, Clarion University is one of 14 universities that are part of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). It offers associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees, post master’s certificates and a doctoral degree.
