Some 19 juvenile delinquents at Ministry of Social Development rehabilitation centres Saturday joined a programme aimed at developing their individual communication, leadership and social work skills and enhancing self-confidence.

The underage group “in conflict with the law” aged between 4 and 18 were picked from juvenile education and rehabilitation centers for the three-day programme, dubbed “Forest Camp”, according to Ahmad Zabin, head of the Juvenile and Community Security Directorate at the ministry.

“The program seeks to develop individual and life skills, teamwork, leadership and communication skills, taking into consideration the natural variations between participants and the limits of their capabilities, and enhance self-confidence and the ability of decision-making and problem-solving skills,” he told Petra in an interview.

It focuses on enhancing physical abilities, personal skills, self-defense and discipline in all aspects of life, he added.

Zabin pointed to the ministry’s focus on juvenile detention centers, where it offers specialized rehabilitation programmes, which aim to “secure the future” of the children and their reintegration into society, noting that the program of non-custodial measures for juveniles has been applied to ensure misdemeanors are not repeated.
