Jordan condemns Israeli demolition of Palestinians’ homes

Jordan’s foreign ministry Wednesday inveighed against the Israeli occupation forces’ demolition of Palestinian-owned homes in the occupied West Bank.

Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dhaifallah Fayez said in a statement demolishing homes, appropriating lands and the displacement of people are all violations of international law that run counter to Israel’s commitments, as the occupier, toward the occupied Palestinians.

The policy of settlement expansion adopted by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territories, whether through land appropriation, displacement or building settler units, is illegal and undermines the effort to realise peace and materialise the two-state solution as per the international law.

Digital transformation is catalyst for economic, social development in Jordan – Minister

Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Ahmad Hanandeh, underscored that digital transformation is a catalyst for economic and social development in Jordan.

Hanandeh made the remarks during a virtual dialogue session on Wednesday, organized by the TechWadi non-profit organization, on the digital and technology landscape in the Kingdom, with the participation of the CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), Rose Alissi?.

The minister stressed the government’s commitment to develop, among Jordanian youth, digital skills that are compatible with the future requirements of the labor market through a number of programs and projects supervised by the Ministry.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Hanandeh pointed out that digital transformation leads to finding solutions for many financial, agricultural, industrial, health care, security services and others issues, and developing new business models that ‘could not be developed in isolation from digital transformation and modern technologies.’

Jordan, he added, has been able to reach advanced stages in the field of digital economy and entrepreneurship compared to countries in the Middle East and North Africa, especially in digital infrastructure if measured by the rate of access to Internet services and the quality of the service provided. He indicated that the Kingdom has surpassed the rest of the countries in the region based on the number of entrepreneurs in Jordan in comparison with the rest of the region, which is more than twofold of the average for the region.

He stated that the Jordanian government, through the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and in cooperation with all concerned parties, supports Jordanian startups and works to attract investments, as well as help them address the post-Covid-19 pandemic challenges. He said the government provided numerous programs and initiatives during the pandemic to enable Jordanian entrepreneurial companies to continue operations.

The ministry, he pointed out, is also committed, through its continuous activities, to network these companies with investors, investment funds and relevant parties on the local, Arab, and international arenas, to ensure these companies expand and access the funding needed for their development.

AmCham CEO Alissi pointed to the Chamber’s great role over the past years to support entrepreneurial projects through its Silicon Valley Matchmaking Program, in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Economy, which aims to link Jordanian entrepreneurial companies with their counterparts of entrepreneurs and financiers in the Silicon Valley, and enables participants to access markets, obtain financing and exchange knowledge in cooperation with its strategic partner, TechWadi.
