RJAF receives three C-130 aircraft from USAF

The Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF), U.S. Air Force (USAF), and the U.S. Embassy in Jordan on Thursday celebrated the transfer of three C-130 transport aircraft from USAF to RJAF in a ceremony attended by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Major General Yousef Huneiti, RJAF Commander Brigadier Mohammad Hiyasat, US Ambassador Henry T. Wooster, USAF Regional Director for Security Assistance Brigadier General Todd Dozier, and U.S. Embassy Defense Attaché Colonel David Kobs.

RJAF has received two of the C-130 aircraft since September, with the third scheduled for delivery in January.

“This donation of advanced aircraft represents the commitment of the United States to building strong capabilities of our Jordanian partners to respond immediately to any situation, whether it is a natural disaster, humanitarian crisis, or operational mission,” Ambassador Wooster noted in remarks at the ceremony.

“The delivery of these aircraft enhances the US security partnership with Jordan and reflects a US commitment to Jordan as a key and important ally for regional stability and security,” said USAF Regional Director for Security Assistance Brigadier General Todd Dozier.

Global Covid caseload tops 268 million

The global coronavirus caseload has topped 268 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 5.27 million and vaccinations to over 8.28 billion, according to Worldometer website.

In its latest update on Thursday morning, the website revealed that the current global caseload and the death toll stood at 268,091,135 and 5,278,886, respectively, while the total number of vaccine doses administered has increased to 8,284,831,624.

Rain, cold conditions to continue on Thursday

Chilly weather permeating the Kingdom is forecast to persist on Thursday, with clouds at low altitudes and a chance for scattered showers at the northern and central regions, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily update.

The weather department warned of slippery roads in the areas experiencing rain, low-visibility during rainfall due to dust formation in badia areas and fog formation in mountainous areas.

On Friday and Saturday, a slight rise in temperatures is expected but similar cold weather will continue to prevail in most parts of the Kingdom, the JMD added.

The highs in Amman and other highlands across Jordan today will range between 14 and 12 degrees Celsius, dropping at night to 6C or even 3C in the southern highlands. In the Gulf city of Aqaba, it will be warmer with mercury reaching a high of 24C and a low of 16C.

Shboul: Gov’t mulls extending Defense Order No. 28

State Minister for Media Affairs Faisal Shboul, on Thursday, announced that the government is considering the possibility of extending Defense Order No. 28 which is related to the debtor’s imprisonment, for a specific period of time and will be announced later.

He told Petra that the government, as part of its efforts to confront the epidemiological situation, has taken a number of additional precautionary measures based on the recommendations approved by the National Committee for Epidemics.

Shboul, who is also the Government’s Official Spokesperson, indicated that the procedures included obligating all guests and attendees of parties and gatherings to conduct a PCR test before 48 hours, they are also required to obtain two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, and no more than six months should have passed since the individual’s second dose.

Any case suspected of having the new variant will be institutionally quarantined in a hotel inside Amman until the final result of the examination or genetic sequencing testing for the virus appears, Shboul added.

The decisions, also noted that if the test turns out positive, the patient will be isolated for a period of 14 days, but if the case is confirmed to be infected with Omicron, then the case is institutionally isolated in a hotel in Amman for a period of 14 days, during which a PCR examination is carried out on the fifth day to follow up, he said.

All arrivals via land, air and sea borders will be required to take a COVID-19 PCR test, regardless of their vaccination status, Shboul noted.

King expresses best wishes to Iraq on its state centennial

His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday expressed best wishes to Iraq on the occasion of its state centennial.

In a letter to Iraq President Barham Salih, King Abdullah commended the progress Iraq has achieved over the past 100 years, wishing the people and government of Iraq further prosperity and progress.

His Majesty reaffirmed the deep-rooted ties between Jordan and Iraq, stressing keenness to bolster and expand cooperation, as the two states both embark on their second centennial.

Women’s Empowerment, Jordan’s Centennial named best digital campaigns in 2021

The World Social Media Forum (WSF), Jordan’s most influential gathering of digital media professionals, awarded strategic communications agency, Advvise, two awards for effective campaigning. The winning campaigns, designed and launched by Advvise, were credited for their effective use of storytelling techniques, campaigning for change, and creative use of new technology.

Held under the patronage of HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, the 6th edition of the World Social Media Forum brought together government officials, TV celebrities, senior executives, renowned social media influencers and more than 300 representatives from the media and communications sector.

“We were honored that our campaigns have been chosen, particularly given the competitive nature of the landscape digital media landscape,” commented Suzanne Afanah, Advvise founding partner, who was presented the awards during a special ceremony. “Our team strives to push the boundaries of creative communications by using every single tool at our disposal and consistently striving to create new experiences.”

The first of the winning campaigns, designed and implemented by Advvise for UN Women, leveraged the power of social media to tackle a crucial subject: women’s equal representation in the workforce, specifically in the peacekeeping and security sectors. The campaign amassed millions of views by using compelling narratives that focused on the immense contribution of women at work, including the many women working on the frontlines of Jordan’s COVID-19 response.

“Working on the campaign was an incredibly rewarding experience as it helped us further understand the critical role played by women in peace and security and the importance of collectively campaigning for an equitable workforce,” added Afanah.

The second campaign demonstrated the sheer impact of using new technologies to make the experience a central focus of the message. Developed by Advvise on behalf Housing Bank, the campaign highlighted the bank’s participation in Jordan’s centennial celebrations, featuring an augmented reality presentation that took viewers through the rich historical and cultural heritage of Jordan.

Afanah noted that, during both campaigns, the key priority was to find the right tools to tell the right story for the client and to make sure that the message is being delivered with as much impact as possible. She also stressed the importance of giving audiences a sense of added value simply by the act of experiencing a campaign, which requires forming a deeper understanding of both people and the tools they use on a daily basis.

Crown Prince attends Jordan Camel Race Festival closing ceremony

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II on Thursday attended the closing ceremony of the Jordan Camel Racing Festival, held at Sheikh Zayed Racetrack in the Disi region.

Crown Prince Al Hussein, accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Omar bin Feisal, honoured the owners of the 21 race winners.

His Royal Highness also presented prizes to the top three winners in the Nabataean poetry competition held on the sidelines of the festival, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture.

The festival, which was held over two days as part of the festivities marking Jordan’s state centennial, included guests of honour from a number of friendly countries.
