West Irbid Municipality Mayor receives German Munich Municipality experts

Mayor of West Irbid Municipality, Jamal Bataineh, on Tuesday met with a delegation of experts representing the German municipality of Munich.

The meeting covered opportunities to enhance cooperation in the field of training, developing and increasing the productivity of workers in the municipality’s container factory.

Bataineh commended the Munich municipality’s role in supporting the establishment of the container factory in the West Irbid municipality years ago, adding that the municipality is looking forward for more cooperation in order to increase the factory’s productivity to meet needs of the municipality’s service areas.

Bataineh highlighted the container factory’s key administrative, technical, logistic and training needs.

In turn, the German delegation stressed the Munich Municipality’s keenness to meet needs of West Irbid Municipality, including rehabilitating and training technicians in the container factory and increasing its productivity, which reflects the fruitful cooperation between the two municipalities.

Royal Decree appoints IEC board of commissioners headed by Maaytah

A Royal Decree has been issued, appointing the following as members of the board of commissioners of the Independent Election Commission, as of 5 April 2022:

1- Musa Maaytah, as chief commissioner;

2- Abeer Dababneh, as member;

3- Ammar Husseini, as member;

4- Jihad Momani, as member;

5- Raed Adwan, as member.

Another Royal Decree was issued, accepting the resignation of Musa Maaytah from his position as minister of political and parliamentary affairs, as of 5 April 2022.

A third Royal Decree was issued, approving the assigning of Deputy Prime Minister and Local Administration Minister Tawfiq Kreishan to administer the Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, as of 5 April 2022.

Irbid exports up by 21.8pct in Q1 of 2022

Irbid’s exports in the first quarter of 2022 spiked by 21.8 percent compared to the same period of 2021.

According to an Irbid Chamber of Industry (ICI) statement on Tuesday, exports of the first four months of the current year amounted to $323 million compared to $265 million last year.

Head of ICI Hani Abu Hassan said Al Hassan Industrial Estate exported $297 million, while Cyber City’s exports stood at $21 million.

The textile and leather sector maintained a leading position in the sector-based exports with a value of $292 million, followed by the medical industries sector by $9 million, the foodstuffs products by $8.7 million, he said. The remaining exports were strewn in the engineering, chemical, mining, construction, plastic and packaging sectors.

US market was the biggest importer, accounting for $288 million worth of Irbid’s exports, he added, while Arab countries imported $24 million and the rest were distributed to Canada, Europe, Southeastern Asia and other countries across the world.

Chief of Staff, Mozambican counterpart discuss military cooperation, region

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti received at the General Command of the Armed Forces Chief of the General Staff of the Mozambican Armed Forces, Adm. Joaquim Mangrasse and an accompanying delegation.

During a meeting, which was attended by senior officers and the Mozambican military defence attaché in Amman, they discussed latest regional and international developments as well as enhancing bilateral military cooperation in the fields of training, exchanging military expertise and holding joint military exercises.

Minister, UK ambassador discuss women’s political empowerment

Minister of State for Legal Affairs Wafa’ Bani Mustafa on Tuesday met United Kingdom ambassador Bridget Brind to discuss cooperation in enhancing women’s political participation and addressing challenges facing them in various fields.

They also focused on youth participation in decision-making to benefit from their creativity and innovation and deal with economic challenges along a path of political reform.

The minister said the new legislative amendments are essential to stimulate political party work, develop a democratic environment and empower women, stressing the importance of following up on these outcomes, and urging all political forces to work and positively interact with them.

She stressed the importance of offering support and guidance to political parties to increase women’s participation in political life, as well as benefiting from the expertise of countries where women face challenges.

The UK ambassador commended Jordan’s efforts to develop the political system, including constitutional amendments and the passage of the elections and political parties laws, which open new horizons and opportunities for women and youth.

Women’s participation in political work, she pointed out, would help make better decisions, highlighting the British government’s experiences in integrating the concept of gender in all programs.

Crown Prince visits Northern Military Region Command

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II on Tuesday visited the Northern Military Region Command.

Crown Prince Al Hussein was received by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Hneiti, and the commander of the Northern Military Region.

His Royal Highness conveyed King Abdullah’s greetings to the region’s personnel and expressed best wishes to them on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.

The Crown Prince was briefed by the region’s commander on the progress of operational, training, and logistical matters, and toured a number of the command’s facilities.

His Royal Highness commended the distinguished level of the Northern Military Region Command’s personnel, praising their advanced skills and readiness.
