Safadi, Palestinian official stresses need to halt illegal Israeli actions at al-Aqsa Mosque

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi and Member of the Fatah Central Committee and the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s Executive Committee Hussein al-Sheikh, stressed the need to halt all Israel’s provocative actions in Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif and respect worshippers’ right in performing their religious rituals.

During a phone call with al-Sheikh, Safadi considered the storming of the mosque, that resulted in the injuring of 152 worshippers and the arrest of hundreds, a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of Israel’s responsibility as the occupying power.

Safadi, during the phone call, warned of the consequences of such escalation in the Palestinian territories including the holy city of Jerusalem.

The two sides pointed out the need for immediate action that maintains calm, finds real prospects for achieving a just peace on the basis of the two-state solution and meets the Palestinians’ rights.

They affirmed the need for Israel to respect the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and halt all illegal measures that violate it.
