Planning minister to partake in 6th Brussels Conference on Syria

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh will partake in the 6th Brussels Conference on Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region, slated for May 10.

The conference, organized by the European Union, seeks to encourage further international support for refugees and host communities in the region by offering humanitarian aid and bolstering economic recovery, a ministry statement said on Thursday.

The importance of Jordan’s participation lies in cluing in the international community on the challenges facing the Kingdom as a result of the refugee crisis, as well as the measures taken to alleviate the repercussions of the crisis. It also aims at urging the international community to shoulder its responsibility in supporting Jordan as a host country, especially since the crisis is still casting its shadows on various vital sectors in Jordan, it added.

The conference is an opportunity to meet with several partners of Jordan to discuss bilateral relations and development, it noted.

HCD chief, Amazon Jordan director discuss job opportunities for people with disabilities

Prince Mired bin Raad, President of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD), discussed with the Director General of Amazon Jordan, Mahmoud Obeidat, ways to provide suitable job opportunities for people with disabilities in the multinational technology company, and enhance joint cooperation in this regard.

During the meeting, which was held at the HCD’s headquarters, the two sides agreed to work on preparing and signing an official memorandum of understanding (MoU) to expand opportunities for joint cooperation and hire persons with disabilities through Amazon Student Programs aimed to provide equitable employment opportunities.

The HCD affirmed its keenness to support Amazon’s efforts in this regard by identifying and nominating a group of highly qualified professionals from 11 universities, according to its statement.

Prince Mired also discussed with Obeidat job opportunities available in Amazon Jordan, ways of employing and integrating people with disabilities and the possibility of career growth.

The two sides also discussed their joint strategic partnership and the opportunities to push it to broader horizons, the statement added.

Lauding Amazon’s efforts and cooperation, Prince Mired said providing suitable job opportunities and for people with disabilities is a top goal of the HCD’s vision, which is to contribute to building a society in which people with disabilities enjoy a decent and sustainable life that enables this category to effectively participate on the basis of justice and equality.

Prince Mired said: “I am very proud to cooperate with Amazon Jordan to increase the number of jobs available and enhance quality of employees expertise by providing a supportive, comprehensive and creativity-inducing work environment, which in turn contributes to enabling the Jordanian community to grow and prosper.”

In the first phase, the two sides will work to explore and develop work strategies aimed at enhancing community awareness of suitable jobs for people with disabilities and clarifying mechanism to submit job applications on Amazon and the necessary employment requirements.

This process aims to expand the scope of benefiting from available vacancies and ensuring employment of qualified people at the company, the statement pointed out.

On the opportunities available in Amazon, Obeidat said :”Amazon seeks to be an incubator for the best minds and creative talents, including individuals with disabilities. Amazon has taken practical steps to make it an attractive place that helps people with disabilities to develop their abilities and their professional lives.”

Obeidat added: “Jordan Amazon contributes to providing a wide range of jobs in the technology sector, in addition to opportunities to achieve career growth, and we always look forward to working closely with the HCD to employ, train and develop capabilities of persons with disabilities, who are an integral part of Jordanian society.”

Obeidat pointed to the joint HCD-Amazon cooperation in providing job opportunities for people with disabilities within a wide range of technical and customer-centric disciplines, including management, programming and customer service jobs.

Interior minister instructs release of 546 administrative detainees

Interior Minister, Mazen Faraiah, on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, instructed the concerned authorities to release 546 administrative detainees, who are not involved in racketeering cases.

In a statement on Thursday, Faraiah said the decision came after examining the detainees’ files and ensuring that their release would not pose a threat to the Kingdom’s security and public order.

The decision also aims to give an opportunity to them to reengage in society, the statement added.
