(“Synchronoss” or the “Company”) (Nasdaq: SNCR), a global leader and innovator in cloud, messaging and digital products and platforms, today announced the official rollout of two new premium personal cloud solutions offered by Telkomsigma, a subsidiary of Telkom Indonesia, the country’s largest telecom operator. Following the agreement in November, Telkomsigma is now making its Floudrive service, powered by Synchronoss Personal Cloud, available to university students and Telkomsel mobile customers.

As the IT Services and Data Center arm of Telkomsel, Telkomsigma is utilizing the Synchronoss Personal Cloud platform for its Floudrive service, offering a reliable and intuitive cloud storage experience with the ability to backup and restore digital content, including photos, video, texts, and other files. To ensure compliance with Indonesia’s data storage laws, Synchronoss has partnered with Alibaba, leveraging their in-country IT infrastructure.

Beginning in September, Telkomsigma will offer incoming university students a free Floudrive account that includes 50 gigabytes of cloud storage, which can be used to backup all digital content as well as share files and photos. The free bundle is the first of its kind and offered through select universities in Indonesia. Additionally, Telkomsigma will offer a premium version of Floudrive to 170 million Telkomsel mobile customers. The premium service will include 100 gigabytes of storage.

WATRA Week II concludes at BAU

A training course on wastewater treatment and reuse in agriculture concluded Thursday at the Al-Balqa Applied University (BAU).

The “WATRA Week II” training is a component of the BAU’s WATRA program, which is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands Universities Foundation for International Cooperation (NUFFIC), and Orange Knowledge (OKP).

It is a joint project of the BAU, IHE Delft, and the World Water Academy (WWA) in the Netherlands.

The second week of the WATRA project was hosted by the International Research Center for Water, Environment, and Energy (IRCWEE) at the BAU.

Dr. Naser Manaseer, manager of the WATRA project and associate professor of civil engineering at BAU, stated that the university collaborates with the ministry of water to better serve the community and emphasized the significance of collaboration between the academia and government agencies.

According to Manaseer, the project aims to offer creative answers to achieve sustainable development by investing in current facilities and renovating them to benefit the kingdom more effectively.

The training included a variety of workshops and programs for trainees and farmers in the Jordan Valley region, which was one of the project’s primary target areas.

Peter van der Steen, the project leader of WATRA at IHE, described the project’s objectives, which include helping to strengthen the diploma program for water engineering at BAU and developing the Fuhais research center for wastewater treatment to train individuals on how to combat water scarcity.

Reem Khader, OKP’s country manager, discussed the institution’s role in the region, stating that it funds 14 projects in the Kingdom and addresses four major areas: agriculture and water management, food and nutrition security, security and law, and sexual and reproductive health.

Jihad Mahamid, Secretary General of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, discussed Jordan’s water challenges and stated that, despite scarcity, Jordan is a regional leader in managing water resources.

Although Jordan faces challenges from climate change in ensuring the population’s access to water and food, he asserted that efforts are still being made, in partnership with IHE, to identify unconventional water resources.

Dr. Ahmad Al Ajluni, President of BAU, emphasized that collaboration between BAU and IHE will aid in Jordan’s fight against water scarcity. He urged BAU students to pursue water studies and submit proposals and reports aimed at developing new technologies to benefit the community.

China on Thursday successfully launched a terrestrial ecosystem carbon monitoring satellite and two other satellites from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in the Shanxi Province, northern the country.

The carbon monitoring satellite is mainly used for terrestrial ecosystem carbon monitoring, survey and monitoring of terrestrial ecology and resource, major national ecological projects monitoring and evaluation. It will also provide operational support and research services in many areas such as environmental protection, surveying and mapping, meteorology, agriculture, and disaster reduction.

Blistering weather, intermittent showers forecast over weekend

Jordan on Thursday continues to bake in a blazing heat wave that pushed mercury levels well above annual average by almost 6 degrees Celsius and just one degree shy from the 40C threshold in the capital, Amman.

In its daily brief, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said that the Jordan Valley, 212 to 400 meters below sea level, and the Red Sea port of Aqaba are set to swelter in scorching conditions today and tomorrow with temperatures breaking into the 42-43C vicinity.

Despite the blistering conditions, cloudy skies and a weak chance for intermittent showers are expected in limited parts of the southern and eastern areas of the country, the forecasters predicted.

The department also warned the public of direct exposure to sunlight in the afternoon and of poor visibility in the Badia areas due to dust.

Excessive heat watches will persist on Friday, with clouds at medium and high altitudes and a chance for spotty showers, accompanied by thunders at times, in the southern and eastern regions, the JMD further said.

The hot spell will start to subside on Saturday, as thermometers will dip few degrees, bringing relatively hot weather in the highland, while it will remain hot in other regions, with cloudy skies, the meteorologists forecast.

In Amman and other highlands, north and south, daytime mercury levels will range between 35 and 39 degrees. In the late afternoon and evening hours, cooler weather is forecast as temperatures slide to around 25 and even 21 in the southern highlands.

Girl forced by father to beg taken into custody

The Anti-Vagrancy Department at the Ministry of Social Development took a 17-year-old girl into custody after she was coerced by her father to panhandle near a traffic light in Amman.

According to a ministry statement issued on Thursday, the father was found to have 22 criminal records after an investigation.

The girl told the investigators that she wanted to continue her studies but that her father forced her to practice begging on the streets. He also reportedly stayed close to her to keep an eye on her while she was begging, according to the statement.

The ministry said the girl was taken to a rehabilitation and care center, where she receives behavior therapy as well as several curricular and extracurricular activities.

The statement stated that this girl, like many others, is exploited for vagrancy and urged people not to sympathize with beggars in order to put a stop to this negative social phenomenon.
