أبوظبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة ،  xx  سبتمبر 2022 : تنظم دائرة الثقافة والسياحة-أبوظبي والرابطة الوطنية لكرة السلة الأمريكية “منطقة دوري كرة السلة الأمريكي للمحترفين” خلال الفترة من 5-9 أكتوبر في منارة السعديات ، بالتزامن مع استضافة مباريات دوري كرة السلة الأمريكي للمحترفين أبوظبي 2022 التي تشهد مواجهتين مرتقبتين بين فريقي أتلانتا هوكس وميلووكي باكس، بطل دوري 2021، والمقرر إقامتهما يومي الخميس 6 أكتوبر والسبت 8 أكتوبر في   الاتحاد أرينا بجزيرة ياس ، وذلك للمرة الأولى في دولة الإمارات والخليج العربي.  

وتحتضن ال منطقة برنامجاً حافلاً من ا لفعاليات الرياضية والترفيهية والعروض الفنية والموسيقية المستوحاة من دوري كرة السلة الأمريكي للمحترفين، والتي تمنح الجميع فرصة التواصل مع كوكبة من أساطير كرة السلة ، والاستمتاع بعروض الفرق الترفيهية الرسمية للرابطة، إلى جانب المشاركة في جدول متنوع من أنشطة كرة السلة ، وفرصة شراء هدايا تذكارية حصرية محدودة الإصدار .

FM partakes in 6th ministerial meeting of Munich Group

Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, on Wednesday participated in the sixth ministerial meeting within the Munich Group, held on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), in the presence of the European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Policy and the United Nations Special Coordinator for Peace in the Middle East.

According to a statement issued Wednesday evening by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs, the group includes, in addition to the Kingdom, Egypt, Germany and France.

A statement was issued by the meeting confirming the participants’ commitment to a multilateral international system as a fundamental basis towards achieving peace, security and development, according to ministry’s statement.

The statement said that the ministers reaffirmed that resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the basis of the two-state solution is irreplaceable to achieve comprehensive peace in the region, as they stressed their firm commitment to support all efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East on the basis of international law and relevant Security Council resolutions and the agreed references, including the Arab Peace Initiative.

The ministry added that the two-state solution based on the pre-June 4, 1967 borders, in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, which guarantees the establishment of an independent, contiguous and viable Palestinian state living in security and peace alongside Israel, is the only way to achieve the legitimate aspirations of Palestinians and Israelis. They stressed the importance of resuming negotiations, the need for an immediate and complete cessation of all unilateral actions, and the need to respect international law and international humanitarian law by all.

According to the ministry’s statement, the ministers expressed their regret over the big number of civilian casualties in recent weeks and months, underlining the need to stop all unilateral actions that undermine the two-state solution and prospects for a just and lasting peace, and the importance of maintaining the unity, integrity and geographical connection of the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem and the need for an immediate cessation of all settlement activities, annexation of land, and the displacement of Palestinians from their homes, which constitute a violation of international law, expressing their concern about the evacuation of residents of the Musafer Yatta area, and underscoring the need to respect the rights of residents of Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan neighborhoods in their homes.

The ministers called for preserving the status quo in the holy sites in Jerusalem, emphasizing the importance of the Hashemite custodianship over the holy sites in Jerusalem, and the inadmissibility of using religious holidays for political purposes, and the need to take the necessary steps to bring about a fundamental change in the political, security and economic situation in the Gaza Strip as well as the full respect for the ceasefire and reaffirming the essential role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Fair weather to prevail as temps dip

Fair autumn weather is forecast to prevail on Thursday in most parts of the Kingdom as temperatures slightly dip to below their annual average, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily update.

Clouds will form at low altitudes in the northern regions, with a slight chance for scattered showers in the early morning hours. Winds will be northwesterly moderate, picking up at times.

Similar weather conditions will persist during the weekend despite a slight rise in mercury levels, with low-altitude clouds and northwesterly moderate to brisk winds.

Today, temperatures in the capital Amman will range between a high of 27 degrees Celsius and a low of 16C, while the port city of Aqaba will see a high of 36C, sliding to 25C at night.

Extremist settlers storm Al-Aqsa under Israeli escort

Scores of Jewish extremist settlers early Thursday stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque/ al-Haram al-Sharif compound in occupied East Jerusalem.

The Islamic Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Affairs said in a statement that today’s raid was conducted through al-Magharebah Gate under heavy protection of Israeli police.

“The settlers provocatively toured the Mosque’s yards and performed Talmudic rituals in the eastern part of the compound, while Muslim worshipers and Al-Aqsa’s guards peacefully confronted them,” it added.

‘Clean Up the World’ campaign launched in Aqaba

The Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan (JREDS) on Wednesday launched the “Clean up the World 2022” campaign in Aqaba, with 700 volunteers from national companies and institutions.

The campaign, which also kicked off in 130 countries, is a global social action program aimed at combating the global solid waste problem, and offers a good opportunity to participants to contribute towards the conservation of the environment.

In remarks at the launching ceremony, Chief Commissioner of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Nayef Bakheet said that the campaign’s primary goal is to foster a societal culture of environmental cleanliness and sanitation, particularly in the marine environment, which attracts tens of thousands of tourists and diving enthusiasts to the Red Sea city.

Aqaba Governor Khaled Hajjaj emphasized the campaign’s goal of raising community awareness about reducing plastic waste that ends up in the sea.

“Organizing such initiatives is critical to having sustainable and pollution-free environmental resources in order to preserve tourist and archaeological sites, as well as marine natural heritage,” said JREDS Director Mohammed Tawaha.

In turn, Director General of Aqaba Port Marine Services Company (APMSCO), Dirk Wijnen, underlined the campaign’s importance in preserving biodiversity and ecological balance in the environment, which will eventually assist the concerned institutions in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly Goal 14: Life Below Water.

Jordanian-German energy council convenes

The Jordanian-German Energy Business Council held its second meeting of the week on Thursday at the headquarters of the Jordanian-German Energy Partnership to discuss the opportunities and difficulties associated with green hydrogen in Jordan, as well as the services and goods offered by German and Jordanian businesses.

Amani Azzam, the secretary general of the ministry of energy, stated that the goal of the meeting was to strengthen Jordanian-German energy cooperation and to open new markets for business investments in both nations.

In the presence of German Ambassador Bernhard Kampmann, Azzam highlighted ongoing bilateral partnership projects, including a study to expand renewable energy capacity in power grids, a roadmap project for hydrogen usage and legislation in Jordan, and a project to promote innovation in the energy sector.

The council is working to set up a meeting between German and Jordanian private and public sector representatives in order to discuss investment and cooperation opportunities in the Jordanian energy sector and find long-term, cost-effective, and reliable power sources for the Kingdom.

The Jordanian-German Energy Partnership was founded on a joint declaration of intent signed in 2019 by the Jordanian and German governments.

Jordan is one of 20 countries that have established energy partnerships with Germany in order to stimulate dialogue and exchange expertise among decision makers, the business sector, academia, and civil society in order to accelerate the transition to renewable energy.

The Jordanian-German Energy Partnership is managed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

Investment minister, Azeri delegation talk cooperation

Minister of Investment Khairy Amr and an Azeri delegation headed by Deputy Chairman of Alat Free Economic Zone Ismayil S. Manafov on Thursday discussed means of cooperation between the two countries.

The two officials discussed bilateral ties in trade, industry, and investment, as well as incentives available in free and development zones, according to a ministry statement.

During the meeting, which was attended by the Azerbaijani ambassador, Eldar Salimov, Manafov discussed investment opportunities in Alat and its incentives in a variety of industries, as well as the possibility of connecting investors from both countries.

FM meets counterparts in New York, talks ties

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi met in New York on Wednesday evening with a number of world foreign ministers.

In a statement on Thursday, the ministry said that Safadi met with the foreign ministers of Bahrain Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani, Hungary Peter Szijjarto, Portugal Joao Cravinho, and Malta Ian Borg to discuss boosting relations with the aim of serving joint interests, in addition to regional and international developments, foremost of which was the Palestinian cause, and efforts to resolve crises in the region.

The ministry indicated that Safadi signed with his Hungarian counterpart a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of water management. The minister also took part in a ministerial meeting on developments worldwide and in the Middle East and North Africa region, which was hosted by Qatar in cooperation with the International Peace Institute and the Wilson Research Center.

During a meeting with the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, Rola Dashti, Safadi also discussed prospects of joint cooperation, ongoing projects and programs, as well as future initiatives to support the development process in the Kingdom.
