Unstable weather brings scattered showers countrywide for weekend

Unstable weather conditions which started affecting the Kingdom yesterday will continue on Friday, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

Scattered showers are expected in different areas, namely, the southern and eastern parts, with northwesterly moderate winds, picking up at times.

The weather department warns of floods formation in low-lying areas, slippery roads in the areas experiencing rain and low-visibility due to dust formation in Badia regions.

Temperatures in the capital Amman will range between a high of 24 degrees Celsius and a low of 12 degrees at night.

Highs in the port city of Aqaba will hike up to 32 degrees, sliding to 21 degrees at night.

Dutch ambassador’s statement blatant interference in internal affairs, breach of diplomatic norms

The statement of the Dutch ambassador in Amman, Harry Verweij, after his meeting with State Minister for Media Affairs Faisal al-Shboul, constituted a blatant interference in the internal affairs of Jordan and a violation of diplomatic norms, international laws and United Nations charters adopted in this regard.

In accordance with the Charter of the United Nations, that no state has the right to intervene directly or indirectly for any reason whatsoever in the internal or external affairs of any other state.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates voiced its rejection of the Dutch ambassador in Amman’s statement following a courtesy meeting with al-Shboul, noting that it was astonished by the ambassador’s interference in a radio license application for a non-Jordanian and non-Dutch person.

The ministry added that it was “incomprehensible” that an ambassador representing a friendly country interfered in a case governed by laws and regulations with full transparency.

It stressed that Jordan is always open to frank dialogue that approaches all issues with all partners and friendly countries through diplomatic channels and direct contact, in accordance with diplomatic norms, but that it does not accept interference in its internal affairs.

Following the incident, the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation summoned the Netherlands’ ambassador to Abu Dhabi.

It informed him of the Gulf nation’s strong protest and denunciation of the interference of his country’s ambassador to Jordan in the kingdom’s internal affairs.

It is noteworthy that Jordan’s foreign policy is based on respect for the sovereignty and independence of other countries and non-interference in their internal affairs. The Kingdom’s commitment to this principle is embodied by its rejection of foreign interference in the affairs of states and its calls for resolving regional and international disputes through dialogue and diplomatic means.

German parliament approves €200-billion energy relief plan

Germany’s parliament, the Bundestag, on Friday backed the government’s proposal of a €200 billion ($195 billion) fund to tackle skyrocketing energy prices.

The rescue package aims to help ease the energy crisis for industries and households.

According to the government, the fund is set to last until 2024 and will finance energy price caps and subsidies.

Private households could benefit from a price cap of 80 percent of their usual consumption starting in March.

The price cap for big companies could come into effect as soon as January.

Medium-level emergency declared over unstable weather for second day in row – Gov’t

The Ministry of Local Administration announced ‘a state of medium-level emergency,’ for the second day in a row, on Friday.

The ministry asked its main emergency rooms and municipalities in the Kingdom’s governorates to “immediately” deal with any emergency conditions that may accompany the unstable weather.

The ministry also urged its executive bodies to coordinate with the emergency rooms of the Interior Ministry, the Public Works Ministry, the Civil Defense Department, the Armed Forces and the Greater Amman Municipality to address any emergency cases that stemmed from the unstable conditions currently affecting the Kingdom.

Trump summoned to testify to U.S. Jan 6 riot panel, provide documents

Former U.S. President Donald Trump was issued an order on Friday to testify under oath and provide documents to the House of Representatives committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by his supporters, Reuters reported.

The committee said it had sent a subpoena to Trump requiring documents to be submitted to the panel by Nov. 4 and him to appear for deposition testimony beginning on or about Nov. 14.
