Jordan welcomes Lebanon, Israel maritime border deal

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the maritime border deal between Lebanon and Israel, which will enable Beirut to get benefit from the gas fields in the Mediterranean.

The ministry, in a statement on Thursday, said the agreement will help Lebanon confront economic challenges and enhance security and stability in the Middle East region, appreciating the efforts made by the United States to achieve the agreement.

NCHR takes part in human rights meeting in Morocco

The National Center For Human Rights (NCHR) participated in the meeting of the Executive Office of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) held in Morocco.

According to a NCHR statement on Thursday, the meeting went over many issues related to these institutions’ activities and tasks, noting that the Executive Office assumes multiple responsibilities in this field.

The office is concerned with preparing the strategic plan and action program of Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) , implementing its decisions, monitoring its financial accounts and spending aspects, and executing and following up on decisions to accredit NHRIs.

NCHR facilitator, Reim Abu Dabou, attended the discussions, the statement noted.

NCHR is a member of Executive Office for the Asia Pacific region, which includes 16 representatives of the four regional networks of national human rights institutions across the world, namely the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe.

Prince Faisal receives WTF president

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC), on Thursday received President of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF), Chungwon Choue, and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, Prince Faisal lauded Choue’s efforts to promote the sport of Taekwondo worldwide and hailed WTF’s keenness to implement multiple programs aimed at training children in Jordan’s refugee camps.

For his part, Choue stressed Jordan’s “great” role in developing taekwondo sport at the local and international levels, expressing his admiration for the continuous progress and results achieved by Jordanian national taekwondo team at all levels.

On Wednesday, Choue visited Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation’s (THF) flagship project at the Azraq Refugee Camp in Jordan.

Foreign Ministry following up on issue of military retirees in Qatar-Spokesperson

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates is following up on the issue of Jordanian military retirees, who were hired for a limited period to provide security and protection services related to FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 arrangements in Qatar, according to individual contracts with a private company, in a bid to extend all possible assistance, its official spokesperson, Sinan Majali, said.

In a statement on Thursday, Majali indicated that the ministry “highly” values Qatar’s “full” cooperation in dealing with the issue that represents a dispute between the citizens and the private sector company, which signed the contracts, and tries to find the truth and solve the matter, in terms of the company’s adherence with the contractual terms or not.

The official spokesman noted Qatar’s organization of the FIFA World Cup is an achievement for all Arabs, adding that Jordan is keen on the success of this tournament, for which Qatar has prepared with “utmost excellence and professionalism.”

Expressing pride in the military retirees, he noted the ministry will provide all the necessary support for retirees participating in the duty to ensure the company’s commitment to meet their legal rights, in accordance with the available legal frameworks and trust their awareness.

The ministry, he noted, will deal with the issue according to the law and in a manner that reflects the retirees’ respect for the laws in Qatar, and their keenness on success of this “great” event and “distinguished” achievement in Qatar.

Qatar security drill held with Jordan’s participation concluded

Activities of the five-day security exercise, dubbed “Watan: Homeland” concluded in Qatar on Thursday, aimed at testing the security readiness to host FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Jordan took part in the joint drill with forces from various military formations, in addition to the host country Qatar, Turkey, the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Poland, Italy, Spain, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Palestine.

Last Sunday, Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, launched the national exercise, which saw participation of concerned Qatari military and civil authorities and Arab and foreign forces to ensure effective cooperation mechanism and measure security preparedness to achieve success during the tournament period.

Austrian embassy celebrates National Day

The Austrian embassy in Amman celebrated Austria’s National Day , in the presence of Jordanian politicians, businessmen, and activists, and members of the foreign diplomatic corps.

Addressing a gathering in the Austrian embassy in Amman to mark the occasion, Ambassador Oskar Wustinger stressed the depth and strength of ties that bring together Austria and Jordan.

He said, “Next year we will celebrate 70 years of excellent relations and long-standing friendship between Austria and Jordan – which are characterized by a multitude of activities in the political, economic, security, cooperation and cultural field.”

He added, “After a difficult year 2020 due to Corona, economic relations between our two countries have already improved significantly with a further substantial growth in 2022 – both in terms of trade from Austria to Jordan but also of Jordanian exports to Austria.”

“An Austrian tourism infrastructure business delegation visited Jordan in May. This sector has a lot of potential for cooperation between our two countries. Only three weeks ago, we sent a delegation of Jordanian importers to Vienna and we hope that even more Austrian products can be found on the shelves of Jordanian supermarkets and stores very soon,” Wustinger added.

He noted, “We also want to break new ground and think outside the box, work on new industries and bring innovative companies from our two countries together. Therefor we are excited to welcome an Austrian delegation of Tech companies at the MENA ICT Forum at the Dead Sea this November. Further delegations and events are planned around topics such as cyber security and creative.”

War Child Holland concludes project on child violence issues

The War Child Holland office in Jordan, in in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development, concluded “Join Together” project, which sheds light on child violence issues by providing psychological and educational activities and extracurricular programs targeting children and their families, with the support from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Country director of War Child Holland office in Jordan, Mohammad Awamira, said the project aims to enhance protection against child labor and early marriage in the local community, and was implemented over a year in the governorates of Amman, Zarqa and Mafraq, in coordination with Ministry of Social Development.

During the ceremony, a video presentation was aired on the project’s various activities, which were implemented in partnership with Sanabel Al Khaer Society for Social Development, Qudrat Association for Community Development and the NAYA Community Network.

Children’s community committees, who were launched during the project’s period, performed a show. Zarqa Children’s Committee presented a puppet show addressing the story of child harassment and delivering an awareness message for children and their families, followed by a theater performance that sheds light on the issue of violence against girls, such as forced marriage under difficult economic conditions.

Meanwhile, Mafraq Children’s Committee team presented a video of their own to address the issue of school drop-outs and child beggary. The work highlighted psychological impact of depriving children of his right to education and forcing them to engage in vagrancy work that endangers their life and childhood.

Army chief launches Middle East’s first UAS, CUAS, and EW test site in Jordan

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti, on Thursday officially launched East Middle East’s first-ever test site for unmanned aerial systems (UAS), counter unmanned aerial systems (CUAS), and electronic warfare (EW), which was kicked off by Deep Element, in cooperation with the Jordanian Center for Design and Development (JODDB).

Lauding the site, Huneiti said its inauguration enjoys “remarkable” importance, based on Jordan’s “leading and active” role in stabilizing the region and preserving its security, and seeks to upgrade national capabilities at various levels.

During the drone delivery test, which was carried out by Deep Element, in cooperation with JODDB, a Jordanian-made VTOL drone successfully delivered medical supplies from the test site to a targeted location near Kharrana Castle, southwest of the Azraq Wetlands the first such utilization of a UAS flight in the region, according to a Jordan Armed Forces (JAF) statement.

In addition, the UAS test site was officially inaugurated during a series of successful test flights, which included the Kingdom’s first-ever drone delivery and drone inspection flights.

The launch of the test site signifies a “major” milestone in the Kingdom’s enablement of commercial and government drone operations, supporting the integration of UAS into the national airspace and providing a living lab for the development of future policies, trainings, certifications, and UAS and CUAS validations, the statement said.

The site will deliver a wide range of services and benefits to all UAS companies and partners, assisting them in the development of strategic operations and safety risk management plans, while also allowing them to test new UAS and CUAS technologies.

This site will also allow for the testing of EW technologies to counter non-conformal drones, and will support developers in their research of these technologies under the umbrella of the Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF).

The test flights were successfully managed by Altitude Angel’s market-leading GuardianUTM Enterprise system, a world-class UTM (unified traffic management) platform which has been implemented in order to allow the test area to enable safe, integrated flight operations.

GuardianUTM Enterprise provides a ‘single source point-of-truth’ situational awareness and flight authorizations for those managing the test site airspace.

Deep Element is a Jordanian company specialized in designing, developing and integrating comprehensive security solutions in the field of airspace management, surveillance and cybersecurity, and works closely with the Jordanian Armed Forces and other security agencies across the Middle East and Africa.

50th Congress of Jordan’s Surgeons Society kicks off

The 50th Annual Congress of the Jordan Society of Surgeons (JSS) opened on Thursday under the slogan: “Towards Minimal Complications of Surgical Operations” and attracted a large regional and global turnout of 350 doctors and nurses.

In his opening remarks, Senate President Faisal Fayez emphasized the necessity of establishing specialized research centers to keep up with the sector’s advancements and noted that Jordan’s efficient health sector made it a destination for treatment.

He urged the sector to form alliances with advanced international medical centers in order to continue providing high-quality services and positively influence medical tourism in Jordan.

According to JSS President Abdel Hadi AL Breizat, the three-day conference will provide education, training, consultation, and legislation. He went on to say that the event includes two workshops on injuries, principles of conventional and laparoscopic surgery, 17 sessions for doctors, two sessions for nurses, 46 lectures, and 23 research papers.

72 youth and women engaged in employment opportunities in Za’atari tailoring workshop

More than 70 youth and women from Za’atari village, and from the refugee camp that shares its name, have benefited from employment and training opportunities through the Dar Abu Abdullah (DAA) and UNICEF ‘In & Out’ tailoring workshop in the one year since it first opened.

The workshop, part of UNICEF’s Learning to Earning Program in Jordan and implemented by DAA as one of their community-focused projects and programs, employs 72 Jordanian and Syrian refugee women.

Various types of textiles and garments such as medical masks, school bags, blankets and winter clothing, including custom orders from several organizations, including Tkiyet Um Ali and UNICEF have been produced at this workshop.

“We are proud to work with DAA to provide youth and women from the local community and from Za’atari refugee camp with income generating opportunities and a safe workplace. This project is part of our efforts across the country to strengthen social cohesion and economically empower women,” said Shairose Mawji, Acting Representative, UNICEF Jordan.

“We are happy with our ongoing partnership with UNICEF. We are looking forward for more joint future projects to serve women and youth. Stemming from its community-centered approach, Dar Abu Abdullah is firmly committed to reaching out to all segments of society across the Kingdom, including vulnerable groups and impoverished households, in order to fight poverty and sustain livelihoods,” said Samer Balqar, Director-General of Dar Abu Abdullah.

He added that the Za’atari sewing workshop is designed to provide Jordanian women and Syrian refugee women with income-generating opportunities and training, emphasizing that the project offers producers with a welcoming and safe workplace.

The ‘In & Out’ workshop is run in collaboration with the Municipality of Za’atari and Manshiya, offering flexible employment that fits each woman’s individual needs, as well as training and courses in life skills, financial literacy and leadership skills.

UNICEF’s support for the workshop, part of the agency’s Learning to Earning Program, is made possible thanks to funding from the Government of Canada, the Government of Japan, the Kingdom of the Netherlands through the PROSPECTS partnership and the United States Government.

Dar Abu Abdullah is a non-governmental and non-profit organization that seeks to empower the less fortunate and the poorest in Jordan, to achieve financial sustainability by enhancing their capabilities and providing them with new means and methods that enhance their resilience and maintain their livelihoods.
