Huawei highlights “5G Leads the Stride” at MENA ICT Forum 2022

At the 20th edition of MENA ICT Forum, Huawei revealed its 5G network and advanced phase 5.5G blueprint, which illustrates the blooming 5G industry and the diverse 5G application service and will create new value for social development and industry upgrades.

During the forum, Huawei, a global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, explored the trending ICT topics contributing to the socio-economic growth and reshaping the present and future of all verticals and industries, according to a statement by the company.

Prime Minster Bisher Khasawneh visited Huawei’s booth and was briefed on the current and future ICT innovations to support Jordan’s digital transformation vision toward economic modernization and unleash the potential to build the future. Huawei underlined its commitment to contributing to Jordan’s telecom and ICT industry through sharing knowledge and expertise, extending open collaborations and partnerships with all potential ICT stakeholders, empowering more local partners, and cooperating with public and private sectors to create a sustainable ICT ecosystem with cultivating more local talents to be the future ICT leaders.

At the event, Huawei highlighted how 5G strides from large-scale commercial use to high-speed development, accelerating industry convergence and achieving business success. With the rapid deployment of 5G networks, the industry develops much faster than all previous RATs (Radio Access Technology) and two times faster than 4G.

Globally there are now more than 230 5G networks and 700 million 5G users. To push 5G to the next level, Huawei worked with carriers and industry partners to propose four features for 5.5G, the next evolution of 5G technology: 10 Gbps downlink, 1 Gbps uplink, support for 100 billion connections, and native intelligence. 5.5G is necessary to build an intelligent world.

Huawei continues focusing on 5G innovation and development, business success, and green networks to build an intelligent and sustainable ecosystem. The third-generation 5G Massive MIMO AAU dramatically improves user experience and reduces network power consumption.

During the event, Huawei showcased innovative 5G use cases, including AR collaboration solutions and Intelligent CCTV, demonstrating that 5G is a robust infrastructure that dramatically enriches people’s lives and improves production efficiency.

In Jordan, Huawei has continuously contributed to the local ICT industry for 17 years, served 100% of Jordan’s population by collaborating with three leading operators, and achieved a record of zero network accidents in 17 years. In addition, Huawei has trained more than 10,000 high-tech ICT talents for Jordan through its ICT academy, ICT competitions, Seeds for the future, and other programs with the support of related government and partners.

Moving forward, Huawei plans to train more than 30,000 ICT talents. Industry digitalization is the next wave of global economic development. As key enablers of digital transformation, 5G and 5.5 G opens a better intelligent world of new opportunities. Jordan celebrates International Day against Illicit Trafficking in Cultural Property

The Department of Antiquities (DoA) participated in the celebration of the International Day against Illicit Trafficking in Cultural Property, which falls on November 14 annually.

According to a DoA statement on Thursday, this occasion aims to draw attention to highlighting the importance of international cooperation to combat this crime and take proactive measures through 1970 Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property.

The department said this convention provides an international framework to prevent theft and looting of cultural property and recover stolen items, in parallel with progress in combating illegal trafficking in cultural property.

Illegal trade in cultural property is due to multiple reasons, primarily negligence lack of security, and military conflicts, the statement said.

During 2022, DoA held training workshops in the field of combating trafficking in cultural property, in partnership with the American Center of Research (ACOR), and in implementation of the agreement signed with the United States in 2019 in this regard, the statement noted.

These workshops were held in Amman, Irbid and Aqaba governorates, which brought together DoA workers and ACOR experts, as advanced courses in this field will be launched later, the department noted.

On its role, DoA affirmed its “unrelenting” endeavor to address the illegal trade in cultural property by coordination with Jordan’s security apparatuses, customs department, Ministry of Justice, Interpol, Arab International Police and various concerned authorities.

Last March, Jordan had recovered nine antique items from United States, which is the first outcome of the agreement signed between the two countries.

Jordan’s AMR surveillance system capacity-building project concludes

The Ministry of Health and the Jordan Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) hosted an event to mark the completion of a project funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) that aimed to strengthen the Kingdom’s antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance systems by enhancing national laboratory capacities and the workforce.

National partners and stakeholders in the fight against AMR came together for this event to celebrate the successes of their collaborative efforts in Jordan.

WHO has declared AMR to be one of the top ten global public health threats facing humanity, and has warned that antimicrobial misuse and overuse are the primary drivers of the development of drug-resistant pathogens.

KOICA has made a significant investment in Jordan’s national response to antimicrobial resistance development and strengthening. KOICA has contributed to the development of the Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS) in four countries, including Jordan, by establishing and strengthening national AMR Reference Laboratory (NRL) capacities in collaboration with WHO.

In spite of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Health, WHO, and KOICA have continued to mobilize national efforts towards achieving the project’s objectives.

Currently, surveillance sites representing public, private, and teaching hospitals throughout Jordan are reporting AMR data to GLASS.

Secretary General of Primary Health Care and Epidemics, Raid Shboul, acknowledged the efforts made thus far in combating AMR in Jordan and KOICA’s generous support, stating, “With WHO’s technical support and thanks to KOICA’s funding, national surveillance data is contributing to the development of evidence-based policy for the National Antimicrobial Stewardship Program.”

Lee Jae-wan, the Republic of Korea’s ambassador to Jordan, stated “Healthcare has been a key sector in the Korean government’s partnership with Jordan, with Korea contributing to the establishment of 7 healthcare centers, the rehabilitation of a blood bank, and the distribution of electronic prosthetic hands to disadvantaged persons in Jordan since 2004. This year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Jordan, and I am pleased to see that this project has successfully contributed to Jordan’s capacity to combat antimicrobial resistance.”

KOICA Country Director, Dongsung Seo said: “I’m glad that Jordan became the first country in this region which develops a National Infection Prevention and Control Program by virtue of this project supported by the ‘Global Disease Eradication Fund’ which is charged for every international flight ticket departing from Korea. And I believe that Jordan can transfer and disseminate valuable knowledge and skills they have obtained to this region and beyond”.

During the event, WHO Representative to Jordan, Jamela Al-Raiby said: “WHO will continue supporting the AMR national multi-sectoral stakeholders to implement and monitor the progress of Antimicrobial Resistance national action plan using one-health approach”.

She said the organization grateful for the generous support provided by KOICA and the leadership of the Government of Jordan.
