The Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) organized an introductory workshop on the European project, dubbed” CLUSTER 4 GREEN” with the participation of institutions from several Arab and European countries, within the cross-border European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) for Mediterranean basin funded by the European Union.

The ACI, in a statement on Wednesday, said global policies related to climate change and reduction of carbon emissions will impose standards and requirements that affect competitiveness of national industries to export to regional and international markets.

ACI stressed Jordanian industrial sector’s endeavor to be essential within the transformations of the national economy towards a circular economy as a sustainable model.

In addition, ACI highlighted the sector’s efforts to helping the national industry to overcome its challenges, primarily high cost of production and energy by using renewable energy and improving efficiency of energy, water and waste management.

Jordan has adopted principles of a green economy and seeks to achieve them to meet energy and water challenges at the national level, the ACI sais.

Economic Modernization Vision (EMV), which was launched during the current year, featured a sustainability axis, aimed to raise Jordan’s ranking in the global environmental performance index to the top 20% and in Global Sustainable Competitiveness Index (GSCI) to the top 40%, according to the sattement.

ACI also pointed to establishment of a joint-stock company last year, which comprised 84 shareholders from industrial firms, to launch a project to generate solar energy with a capacity of 100 megawatts, on the basis of transit power transmission.

Noting its strategies launched during the last ten years, the ACI said its programs and projects provided specialized services to members in the cleaner production field in energy efficiency and renewables.

ACI expressed hope activities and outcomes of “CLUSTER 4 GREEN” project would contribute to implementing national EMV and goals set for the transition towards a green economy.

This project would include a national network of concerned institutions from the public and private sectors and civil society organizations, to help the national industry adopt sustainable development standards, the ACI said.
