US Secretary of State vows to oppose Israeli settlements and annexation of occupied West Bank land

WASHINGTON, US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, vowed to oppose Israeli settlements and annexation of land in the occupied West Bank, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

He promised to judge Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s incoming government by actions and not personalities, said AFP. “We will gauge the government by the policies it pursues rather than individual personalities,” Blinken said.

Speaking to J Street, a progressive pro-Israel US advocacy group, Blinken said that “we will also continue to unequivocally oppose any acts that undermine the prospects of a two-state solution including but not limited to settlement expansion, moves toward annexation of the West Bank, disruption to the historic status quo of holy sites, demolitions and evictions, and incitement to violence.”

Jordan enters its bicentennial with new youth-based modernization project-Shboul

Irbid, Minister of Government Communications, Faisal Shboul said Jordan is entering its bicentennial with a new national project led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, under the theme:”Transition towards the Future,” with its three political, economic and administrative modernization axes.

His remarks came at the opening session of the Second Jordanian Youth Conference, held Sunday, at the Jordan University of Science & Technology (JUST), under the title: “Political Participation and Capacity Building of Youth.”

Addressing the event, Shboul referred to His Majesty King Abdullah’s affirmation in the Speech from Throne at the inauguration of Parliaments’ regular session on the importance of advancing Jordan’s political, economic and administrative modernization tracks, as a major national project.

In this regard, he said Jordan is pressing ahead to achieve a modern state based on active participation and citizenship, rule of law, and development, focusing on the nation’s youth.

Over a century ago, Jordan faced multiple challenges politically, economically, and security-wise, he said, referring to its capability to overcome these hardships.

Shboul, who is also the Government Spokesperson,affirmed the government’s commitment to move forward with implementation of its three modernization tracks.

Regarding political modernization, he referred to the government commitment following endorsement of of the Political Parties and Elections laws and the related constitutional amendments to create the political conditions to hold the first parliamentary elections on a partisan basis.

Jordan’s youth, he noted, are the key goal of the political modernization system, referring to the Cabinet’s recent decision to regulate partisan work in the Kingdom’s higher education institutions.

Scores of Israeli settlers break into Al-Asqa

JERUSALEM, Scores of Israeli settler fanatics guarded by police today broke into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem, according to local sources.

The Jordan-run Islamic Waqf Department, in charge of the holy site, said scores of Israeli settlers entered the compound through the Moroccan Gate in groups and performed rituals and Talmudic prayers there under the protection of Israeli police officers.

Since 2003, the Israeli occupation authorities have been allowing settlers into the compound almost on a daily basis, with the exclusion of Friday, the Muslim day of rest and worship.

Israel captured East Jerusalem, where Al-Aqsa Mosque is located, during the Six-Day War in 1967 in a move never recognized by the international community.

Israeli court rejects petition for early release of Palestinian prisoner Na’el Barghouti

RAMALLAH, The Israeli military court of Ofer rejected today a petition to release Palestinian prisoner Nael Barghouti, 65, the longest-serving Palestinian prisoner in Israeli jails, who has been in prison for 42 years.

The court also decided to fix Barghouti’s original sentence of a life term plus 18 years in prison under the pretext that a ‘secret file’ has been submitted against him against him by the Israeli intelligence.

Barghouti, who hails from the village of Kobar in Ramallah province, was first arrested in 1978 for resisting the Israeli occupation and then sentenced to a life term plus 18 years.

After serving 34 years in prison, he was freed in October 2011 in a prisoner exchange deal and returned to his village and family.

On 18 In June 2014, the Israeli occupation authorities reneged on the terms of the exchange deal and re-arrested Barghouti. He was sentenced to 30 months in prison and after completing his term and instead of releasing him, Israel reinstated his original life plus 18 years sentence.

Barghouti is actually one of dozens of Palestinian prisoners released in the exchange deal, which Israel has reneged on, re-arrested, and then reinstated their original terms.

There are more than 4,500 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails for their resistance of the Israeli occupation of their homeland.

Palestinians inside Israel protest against Israeli police failure to put stop to rising crime

TAYBEH, Scores of Palestinians in Taybeh, an Arab city in central Israel, demonstrated this evening in condemnation of the failure of the Israeli police to put a stop to the rise in crime in Arab communities in Israel.

Protesters, including families of the victims, closed the crossroad in Taybeh to express their condemnation of the rising crime in the Arab communities in Israel and chanted slogans denouncing the Israeli police inaction and accusing the police of being an accomplice to criminal gangs.

This came following the recent killing of a Palestinian youth inside his workplace in al-Taybeh city.

Demonstrators stressed their rejection of violence and the rampant crimes taking place in Arab communities inside Israel and the police’s inaction to combat violence and crimes.

Palestinians in Israel accuse the police and government of discriminating against them and not doing enough to stop crime in their towns compared to Jewish towns.

Several protests and calls by the Palestinians in Israel, who make up more than 20 percent of the Israeli population, on the government and police to fight the rise in crime in their towns have not yet yielded any significant results with less than a fifth of the crimes be resolved or criminals apprehended.

Dozens of Palestinians suffocate during Israeli military incursion into Tulkarem city

TULKAREM, Dozens of Palestinians today suffocated by tear gas fired by the Israeli army during a military incursion into the city of Tulkarem, in the northern occupied West Bank, according to WAFA correspondent.

Israeli military forces stormed the city heading toward the western neighborhood, amid the firing of the tear gas canisters, causing dozens to suffocate.

An increasing number of unarmed and peaceful Palestinians were either killed or seriously injured as a result of Israel’s constant use of tear gas against Palestinians.

Amman, Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) has welcomed the first Vueling Airlines flight from Josep Tarradellas Barcelona El Prat Airport, marking the start of two weekly direct Amman-Barcelona flights on the Spanish low-cost carrier.

The move demonstrates the ongoing commitment of Airport International Group and the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) to provide passengers with more affordable travel options by expanding QAIA’s airline network.

Officials from Airport International Group, Vueling Airlines, the carrier’s general sales agent in Jordan, Dakkak Travel, and the ground handler, Menzies AHS, were on hand to welcome the inaugural flight.

“We’re excited to welcome the first Vueling Airlines flight, which marked the start of another direct connection to Amman for European tourists looking to discover the rich history and unique attractions of Jordan, as well as for passengers traveling from QAIA to tour the vibrant city of Barcelona,” said Airport International Group CEO, Nicolas Claude.

“We appreciate the dedicated efforts of our longstanding partner, JTB, in helping to further diversify the airline network of QAIA, as we collectively work towards bolstering its standing as the prime gateway to Jordan and the Levant.”

Doha, The French national team defeated its Polish counterpart 3-1 in the match that brought the two together this evening at Al Thumama Stadium.

France qualified for the quarter-finals to compete with Argentina and the Netherlands.
