King, Iraq PM discuss ties in phone call

Amman, His Majesty King Abdullah, in a phone call on Wednesday with Iraq Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al Sudani, discussed the deep-rooted bilateral ties and the latest regional and international developments.

King Abdullah also congratulated the prime minister on the Iraqi national football team’s win in the 25th Arabian Gulf Cup, commending Iraq’s exceptional efforts in hosting the championship.

Senate president, Belgian envoy talk ties, cooperation

Amman, Senate President, Faisal Fayez, on Wednesday discussed with Belgian Ambassador to Jordan, Serge Dickschen, various aspects of bilateral relations and the region’s current situation.

During the meeting, Fayez valued the “high” level of Jordanian-Belgian relations, based on mutual respect and common interests, stressing the importance of strengthening ties in various fields.

The meeting tackled a slew of issues, foremost was the importance of increasing bilateral investments and trade exchanges, and building economic partnerships between the two countries in various fields, according to a Senate statement.

Fayez also pointed to Jordan’s continued keenness to strengthen relations with Belgium and maintain coordination and consultation on various issues of common concern.

In addition, Fayez stressed the importance of strengthening joint economic cooperation and activating bilateral agreements in various fields.

Highlighting the region’s current situation, he voiced Jordan’s “firm” positions under His Majesty King Abdullah II’s leadership in this regard, based on the necessity of establishing regional security and stability and enabling its people to live in freedom and security.

For his part, Belgian envoy lauded great role and continuous efforts made by His Majesty King Abdullah II to resolve the region’s various issues and establish a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.

Dickschen stressed his country’s keenness to strengthen its relations with Jordan, especially in the field of strengthening economic and investment partnership, and activating joint cooperation between the two countries’ industry and commerce chambers.

Senate Energy committee revokes oil shale concession agreement with JOSCO

Amman, The Senate’s Energy and Mineral Resources Committee approved a bill revoking the law ratifying the oil shale concession agreement signed by the government, represented by the Natural Resources Authority (NRA), and the Jordan Oil Shale Company B.V (JOSCO) for 2022, as referred by the Lower House.

This green-light came during the committee’s meeting on Wednesday, headed by Malik Kabariti, in the presence of Minister of State for Legal Affairs Nancy Namrouqa.

The bill’s mandating reasons came after JOSCO terminated the oil shale concession agreement signed with Jordanian government represented by NRA.

As per the agreement, the company is entitled to terminate the concession agreement after the end of the assessment period and ahead of the first pilot phase, according to a 90-day notice sent by JOSCO to the government.

Due to the expiry of the notice period, the concession agreement is deemed terminated by law, given that JOSCO ended the oil shale concession agreement with the Jordanian government
