Police arrest one of most dangerous drug dealers in Amman

Amman, The Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) apprehended one of the most dangerous and armed drug dealers in Amman, who was suspected to be involved in trafficking 400,000 narcotic pills, according to a security source.

The Public Security Department’s spokesman said the police received a tip-off about individuals burying five bags of drugs in the ground in an open area in eastern Amman.

After identifying the “dangerous” suspect, police located, raided, and arrested him, added the spokesman.

The AND also raided a second drug trafficker’s house in the central Badia area, arresting him and confiscating 35 palm-sized hashish packs and 6,000 narcotic pills.

Palestinian new radio, TV headquarters inaugurated in Amman

Amman, Minister of Government Communication, Faisal Shboul, and General Supervisor of the Official Media in Palestine, Ahmed Assaf, on Thursday inaugurated the new headquarters of the Palestinian Public Authority for Radio and Television in Amman.

Shboul, in the presence of the Palestinian ambassador to Jordan, Atallah Khairi, referred to His Majesty King Abdullah II’s firm support for the Palestinian cause, and his directives to successive governments to back Palestinians in all situations and conditions as a Jordanian national strategy.

Addressing the ceremony, he noted the authority’s new office in Amman is an “important and essential” achievement to convey voice of justice for the most oppressed cause in the world.

He also stressed the importance of the role of modern media to inform the world of the just Palestinian issue.

Affirming the government’s readiness to provide the required support to the Palestinian TV authority, Shboul referred to role of national media in supporting the Palestinian cause and emphasizing importance of the Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites.

For his part, the authority’s director, Amin Shahrour, said inauguration of the new headquarters in Amman helps deliver message of Palestine to the entire world.

The inauguration reflects the “close” Jordanian-Palestinian relations and the “deep-rooted” partnership between the two countries’ media, Shahrour added.

The authority, he said, is keen to provide the required equipment and capabilities to help Amman office’s media crews to carry out their tasks “fully,” adding that the authority has other branches in Beirut, Tunisia, Cairo, Damascus, and dozens of correspondents around the world.

CPF opens office in Aqaba in a bid to reach youth across Kingdom

Aqaba, The Crown Prince Foundation (CPF) opened Thursday a new office in Aqaba governorate, as part of a plan aimed at expanding its presence in the governorates and reaching out to young men and women on the field.

The CPF had also recently opened branches in the Mafraq, Zarqa and Ma’an governorates with the aim of enhancing fieldwork opportunities for young people and developing their capabilities.

In a speech during the opening, Nujud Sarhan, Deputy Executive Director and Director of the Programs and Performance Excellence Department at the CPF said: “The Foundation will work, through the Aqaba office, to support and enhance the capabilities of young men and women, provide them with opportunities that help them excel at multiple fronts, and enable them to develop their capabilities in a manner that reflects positively on their communities.”

Sarhan called on young men and women and members of the local community in Aqaba to visit the foundation’s office, communicate with the work team and leverage the available opportunities, and follow the CPF’s social networking sites to view the agenda of the office’s activities.

On the sidelines of the opening, the foundation signed a memorandum of understanding with the Aqaba Governorate Council for joint action to implement activities and initiatives aimed at developing the skills of youth and the local community.

Since its establishment in 2015, the Crown Prince Foundation has prioritized working in the governorates and is committed, through its partners, initiatives and programs, to providing opportunities for young people by enhancing and developing their capabilities.

Turkiye-Syria earthquake: death toll exceeds 16k

Amman, Death toll of the devastating earthquake that struck Syria and Turkiye last Monday has exceeded 16,000 in both countries, amid global predictions of a higher number.

The Turkiye Disaster and Emergency Management Authority announced that the number of earthquake victims increased to more some 12,800 deaths and 63,000 injuries, according to the country’s Anadolu Agency.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights stated that the death toll rose to about 3,200 and more than 5,000 injuries, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.

The total number of people affected by the earthquake could top 23 million, including 5 million of the most vulnerable, predicted the World Health Organization.

Dams storage increased to 40.5 pct

Amman, The rainy weather conditions prevailing in Jordan have raised dams storage to 113.5 million cubic meters (mcm), or 40.5 percent, of their total 280.7mcm capacity, according to the Ministry of Water.

In a statement on Thursday, the ministry said 9mcm were channeled into dams in the last 24 hours, which were mostly poured into King Talal Dam with 4mcm and Wala Dam with 2.5mcm, while the rest was distributed in various dams of the Kingdom.

Precipitation increased to 71.8 percent of Jordan’s long-term average of 8.1 billion cubic meters, constituting 90.3 percent of overall rain witnessed last year. The highest rainfall of 24 millimeters was recorded in Karak, the ministry added.
