Pelé’s mausoleum in Brazil opens to public

The mausoleum built for the golden casket of Pelé was opened for visitors on Monday.

On the second floor of a vertical cemetery in Santos, outside Sao Paulo, , the mausoleum welcomes fans with two golden statues of Pelé; the floor is artificial grass; the walls are images of fans in a stadium; and there’s an endless soundtrack of cheers, as if Pelé was still playing. The ceiling above the casket of the three-time World Cup champion is blue.

Pelé was laid to rest here on Jan. 3, five days after he died at the age of 82 of colon cancer, reports AP.

The mausoleum was planned by the owner of the cemetery, Pepe Alstut, who died in 2018.

Foreign Minister praises HM King’s pro-peace vision

Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani paid tribute to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, hailing his wise drive to reinforce interfaith and intercultural coexistence and advocating diplomatic and civilized dialogue to defuse regional and international conflicts.

“Such a pathway is the only alternation to build to build a world where security, peace, stability, progress and sustainable development prevail”, he said.

Dr. Alzayani made the statement as the Kingdom of Bahrain joins the other nations in marking the “International Day of Living Together in Peace”, annually observed on May 16.

The United Nations General Assembly issued a resolution which proclaimed May 16 as the International Day of Living Together in Peace, recognizing the work of UN Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) that celebrates diversity, understanding, solidarity and living together in peace based on mutual respect – all humanistic principles that are deeply ingrained in UNAOC’s mission and vision.

The minister expressed pride in the lofty royal initiatives and the approach of the government, headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in promoting the culture of peace, instilling the values of love, justice, tolerance and dialogue, and renouncing violence and incitement to religious hatred.

“These lofty values are embodied in the “Declaration of the Kingdom of Bahrain” and the efforts of the King Hamad Global Center for Peaceful Coexistence, the King Hamad Chair for Dialogue and Peace Studies and Interfaith Coexistence at the Italian University of La Sapienza”, he said.

He noted the role of the Royal Humanitarian Foundation and the the Kingdom’s hosting of international conferences and the presentation of international awards aimed at advocating peace and dedicated service humanity.

Alzayani reiterated the commitment of the ministry, Bahrain’s diplomatic and consular missions to the royal pro-vision, the Government’s Progarmme and the national human rights plan, stressing adherence to national pillars in Bahrain, the land of tolerance and peaceful co-existence.

Bahrain Ambassador to Russia meets ACD Secretary-General

Bahrain’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Ahmed Abdulrahman Al-Saati, met today with Dr. Pronchai Danvivathana, Secretary-General of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue(ACD), who is visiting Moscow.

The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Andy Rudenko.

During the meeting, Dr. Pronchai Danvivathana praised the effective role played by the Kingdom of Bahrain during its presidency of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue(ACD) in order to achieve the objectives set for it in promoting and developing economic relations among member states.

Ambassador Al-Saati noted that the Kingdom of Bahrain is committee to supporting international and regional organizations to serve the hopes and aspirations of the peoples of these countries.

The two sides also discussed a number of issues related to the work of the organization, which is chaired by the Kingdom of Bahrain, at its current session, and the arrangements for holding its next summit.

GCC chief condemns attack on residence of the head of the military office at the Kuwaiti embassy in Khartoum.

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi strongly condemned the storming and ransacking of the residence of the head of the military office at the Kuwaiti embassy in Khartoum.

He stressed the need to respect international agreements and diplomatic norms that guarantee the sanctity and safety of the headquarters of diplomatic missions.

In a statement today, he called on all parties in Sudan to take immediate and necessary measures to protect diplomats and diplomatic headquarters.

BOU HABIB DISCUSSES ARAB SUMMIT PREPARATIONS WITH AMBASSADOR BUKHARI, SEVENTH BRUSSELS CONFERENCE WITH UN’S WRONECKA

Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Dr. Abdallah Bou Habib, on Monday met with Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon, Walid Bukhari, with whom he discussed preparations for the Arab Summit, as well as the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Minister Bou Habib also met with a delegation of the families of Lebanese detainees in the United Arab Emirates, in the presence of Acting Director General of General Security, Brigadier General Elias Baissari.

Discussions reportedly touched on the efforts exerted to resolve the issue of the detainees, noting that the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the General Security are continuing in an effort to resolve this issue.

Bou Habib also received United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, with discussions touching on preparations for the Seventh Brussels Conference to be held next month, as well as on the Saudi-Iranian agreement and its repercussions on the regional countries, in addition to regional affairs.

BERRI MEETS ASIAN FOOTBALL CONFEDERATION PRESIDENT, MEETS FORMER MINISTER FATTOUSH, LEBANON’S AMBASSADOR TO PARAGUAY

House Speaker, Nabih Berri, on Monday welcomed at his Ain Al-Tineh residence, President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, accompanied by the Vice President of the Asian Football Confederation, President of the Lebanese Football Association, Hashem Haidar, Secretary General of the Asian Federation Datuk Seri Windsor John, and Deputy Secretary General Waheed Kordani, in the presence of the Secretary General of the Lebanese Football Federation Jihad Al-Shahaf.

The AFC President briefed Speaker Berri on the atmosphere of his visit to Lebanon and the cooperation program with the Lebanese Football Association.

Speaker Berri later received former Minister Nicholas Fattoush, with whom he discussed the current general situation.

Berri also received Lebanese Ambassador to Paraguay, Hassan Hijazi, with an accompanying delegation.

Residence of head of Kuwait’s military office in Sudan attacked

The residence of the head of the military office at the Kuwaiti embassy in Khartoum was stormed and ransacked today, said Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry.

In a statement, the Ministry expressed Kuwait’s condemnation and denunciation of the attack and all forms of violence and sabotage, especially those targeting diplomatic missions and their buildings.

It dismissed such assaults as a flagrant violation of all international norms, rules of international law and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.

The Ministry renewed its call to the official authorities and all concerned parties in the Republic of Sudan to quickly take necessary measures to provide full protection for diplomatic missions staff, buildings and properties. It stressed the need to bring to accountable perpetrators of these attacks.

OIC NEWS AGENCIES TO DISCUSS IN KAZAN FORUM MEDIA ROLE IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA) will organize next Thursday (18 May 2023) an extended media session themed “Russia – the Islamic World: Media Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Economic Prosperity” that will be held in the framework of the International Economic Forum “Russia – the Islamic World: KazanForum 2023”, to be held in Kazan, Russia on 18-19 May.

The session, organized in cooperation with “Tatmedia” Republican Agency for Press and Mass Communications, will be held with the participation of the information department in the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Islamic Centre for Trade Development and several news agencies and media outlets from OIC countries and Russia.

Topics of media cooperation between the Islamic world and Russia will be considered during the session, including “Media as Driving Force for Sustainable Development and Economic Partnerships” and “Practical Steps to Strengthen Media Partnerships at the International Level”.

“The upcoming session is a chance to address global media challenges, build connections and share information among news agencies, and promote peace and tolerance in the media industry,” said the Acting General Director of the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA), Mohammed Abd Rabbo Al-Yami.

He added that UNA’s organization of this session is part of its efforts to improve media institutions in Islamic countries by utilizing expertise from around the world and enhancing coordination between member news agencies, ultimately increasing their presence and participation in international events.

“Currently, the media make the driving force of sustainable development and economic partnership between the countries. That is why media cooperation – “media diplomacy” – promotes the diplomacy of its states in modern conditions and provides equal access to information. In this regard, Russia stands for an active dialogue with the countries of the Islamic world to combat common information threats,” said Aidar Salimgarayev, head of “Tatmedia” Republican Agency for Press and Mass Communications.

It is expected that the KaznForum, in its fourteenth edition, will witness more than 140 working sessions to discuss the economic partnership between Russia and Islamic countries in the presence of more than a thousand participants, including business people and investors from the Middle East and the countries of the OIC.

ON 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE NAKBA, SYRIA RENEWS ITS SUPPORT FOR THE STRUGGLE OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE

Syria renewed its support for the struggle of the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights to restore and establish their independent state and its capital is Jerusalem.

Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said in a statement on its official account on Twitter on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of al-Nakba of the Palestinian people, Syria salutes the steadfastness of the resistant Palestinian people in the face of the Israeli killing and terrorism, of which the steadfastness of the people of Gaza has not and will not be the last recently.

The Ministry added that Syria calls on the international community and countries that support this occupying entity to assume their responsibilities in condemning and stopping the practices of the Israeli occupation and its criminal attacks on innocent Palestinian citizens, including women, children and the elderly, and holding the perpetrators accountable.
