Jerash: The Jerash Agriculture Directorate announced the implementation of 276 water harvesting projects in 2025, aimed at enhancing practical water solutions to boost the agricultural sector. These projects are designed to improve the water situation for farmers and reduce reliance on traditional water sources, as stated by Director Ola Mahasneh.
According to Jordan News Agency, Mahasneh emphasized the importance of water harvesting projects due to their direct impact on agriculture. The initiatives focus on collecting and storing rainwater to be used for supplemental irrigation and livestock watering, which has significantly improved water availability for farmers and reduced pressure on conventional water sources. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to achieve water resource sustainability.
Mahasneh highlighted the significance of these methods in supporting water security and enhancing agricultural sustainability. She referred to a specific project that involved lining 2,000 meters of irrigation canals with cement to minimize water waste from seepage and to increase the efficiency of water delivery to agricultural holdings. Additionally, the installation of 900-meter plastic irrigation pipes was mentioned as a measure to improve water distribution across farmlands, resulting in notable enhancements in irrigation systems and agricultural productivity.
