Amman: The total number of students enrolled in higher education institutions in Jordan has reached 480,009, as reported by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. This data highlights the significant enrollment figures across the country's universities and colleges.
According to Jordan News Agency, 60% of these students are enrolled in public universities and colleges, while the remaining 40% attend private institutions. The data also reveals that 11.5% of the student population, or 55,410 individuals, are international students representing 119 countries.
The study further categorizes students based on their academic pursuits. Bachelor's degree students make up the largest portion at 82.3%, followed by associate degree students at 11%. Students pursuing master's degrees account for 4.5%, while those enrolled in higher diploma programs constitute 1.2%. Doctoral students represent 1% of the total enrollment.
In terms of academic staff, the report indicates that there are 14,152 faculty members in Jordan's higher education system, with women comprising 41% of this workforce. Of the total faculty, 60% are employed at public universities, while 40% work in private institutions. The higher education landscape includes 83 institutions offering a wide range of academic programs.
The Ministry's report also highlights the availability of 2,430 academic specializations across these institutions, including 201 newly introduced programs. Furthermore, the Ministry recognizes 2,971 non-Jordanian educational institutions, reflecting its commitment to enhancing educational quality and ensuring the credibility of academic outcomes.
