Abu dhabi: Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Authority, visited the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) and was welcomed by Dr. Abdullah Ahmed Al Mandous, Director-General of NCM and President of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO). During the visit, Al Hamed examined the centre's operational framework, highlighting its contributions to national and international meteorology, climate science, seismic monitoring, and research.
According to Emirates News Agency, the visit commenced with a tour of NCM's meteorological operations. Al Hamed was briefed on the latest technologies in weather and climate monitoring. He learned about NCM's role in providing critical data for public safety and sector sustainability, utilizing artificial intelligence for enhanced forecasting.
Al Hamed also explored NCM's seismic monitoring system, gaining insight into the network of monitoring stations and their role in national preparedness and risk management. He attended a presentation by Alya Al Mazrouei, Director of the UAE Research Programme for Rain Enhancement Science, which detailed the programme's achievements and future plans for water security and sustainability.
The Chairman praised the programme's contributions to research and innovation, reinforcing the UAE's status in rain enhancement research. During his visit to NCM's Media Centre, Al Hamed appreciated the infrastructure dedicated to producing educational content and engaging the public.
He visited the WMO-affiliated Regional Training Centre, reviewing its modern facilities for training professionals in meteorology and climate science. At NCM's Scientific Dome, Al Hamed engaged with an interactive environment showcasing weather and environmental phenomena.
Al Hamed highlighted the centre's role in translating scientific data into actionable insights for society, emphasizing its contribution to safety and development. He acknowledged the strategic partnership between the National Media Authority and NCM in promoting public awareness and reliable scientific information.
