Agriculture Minister Evaluates Cooperative Sector Initiatives and Projects

Amman: Minister of Agriculture and Chairman of the Jordan Cooperative Corporation (JCC) Board, Saeb Khraisat, recently assessed the current operations and programs executed by the JCC to bolster the cooperative sector in the Kingdom.

According to Jordan News Agency, Khraisat acknowledged the JCC's supervisory and administrative role in the seed multiplication project while overseeing the collection of wheat and barley crops from farmers during this agricultural season. He also appreciated JCC's efforts in managing the cleaning and sterilization of wheat and barley seeds, ensuring farmers have access to high-quality certified seeds.

Khraisat advocated for the classification of cooperative societies based on their specific activities and areas of specialization. This, he emphasized, would enhance their efficiency and the quality of services provided to their members. Additionally, he reviewed the progress of the wool shearing project in the Qatraneh District, a collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Ministry of Agriculture, and managed by the JCC, aimed at supporting livestock breeders and adding value to their products.

The minister participated via video conference in a meeting with the JCC, the International Labour Organization (ILO), and experts focused on updating cooperative legislation. Proposed amendments include modifications to the Cooperative Development Fund (CDF), the Cooperative Development Institute (CDI), and the regulations governing cooperatives and their unions.

Khraisat underscored the need to modernize the legislative framework of the cooperative sector to align with international best practices, enhancing its efficiency. He lauded the JCC's initiatives to expand partnerships with national and international organizations, facilitating access to financial support, training, and technical assistance for cooperatives' development projects.

In conclusion, he commended the ILO's contributions to strengthening the capacities of JCC staff and cooperative members, which aids in formulating the National Strategy for the Jordanian Cooperative Movement. This effort is pivotal in supporting service automation and digital transformation initiatives, ultimately improving institutional performance and service delivery.
