Amman: Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hneifat, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SEEDS Jordan, represented by the National Land Coalition (NLC), which includes 18 civil society organizations and international institutions. The MoU focuses on enhancing cooperation in land management and governance, aligning with the principles of the International Land Alliance to improve the lives of local communities.
According to Jordan News Agency, the memorandum aims to implement a strategy approved by the Jordanian Council of Ministers. This strategy was developed in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, SEEDS Jordan, and the International Land Alliance. The agreement seeks to fulfill the objectives of land management strategy and responsible land investment.
The MoU outlines measures to support community initiatives in sustainable land investment and raise awareness about the importance of natural resources in addressing climate change, epidemics, and conflicts. It also aims to conduct interactive research programs to gather crucial data for ecosystem protection and enhance their benefits for the population. Empowering women, youth, and vulnerable groups is among its strategic goals.
Under the agreement, target groups will have a better opportunity to engage in land governance, develop supportive legislation and regulations, conduct research to understand their needs, and integrate findings into policy development. Additionally, it provides technical cooperation for field activities to support rational land management and build local institutional capacity.
The MoU represents a strategic step toward building effective partnerships for sustainable and equitable land management in Jordan, emphasizing transparency, community engagement, and social justice in decision-making processes.
