Amman: The Ministry of Agriculture has issued 3,100 origin certificates to wheat and barley farmers to facilitate the delivery of their crops to storage facilities in the northern and central regions and collection centers operated by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply in southern Jordan.
According to Jordan News Agency, in a statement on Thursday, Mohammad Hiyari, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture and head of the Central Committee for Local Grain Procurement, stated that these certificates enable farmers to supply their production to grain silos and designated collection centers. These centers include Al-Rabba and Al-Msheirfeh centers located in the Karak Governorate.
Hiyari highlighted that the operations related to collecting and supplying grain are managed by the Jordan Silos and Supply General Company in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply. He acknowledged the ministry's role in establishing the Al-Msheirfeh center in Karak, which is crucial for receiving grain shipments from farmers. Additionally, a local transporter has been contracted to transport the collected quantities from the southern governorates to silos in Amman.
He also encouraged farmers in the southern governorates to deliver their wheat and barley crops to the Al-Msheirfeh center. This move is intended to alleviate pressure on the Al-Rabba center and expedite the receiving procedures.
Hiyari announced that the quantities of wheat and barley received have exceeded 100,000 tonnes. He emphasized that the government continues to support field crops by purchasing locally produced wheat and barley at subsidized prices. The policy aims to motivate farmers to expand the cultivation of strategic crops, enhance national food security, and increase reliance on local production.
