Ajloun Cable Car Boosts Economic and Tourism Growth in Jordan

Ajloun: Jordan Free and Development Zones Group (JFDZG) Chairperson Sakher Ajlouni announced that the Ajloun Cable Car has brought a significant transformation to the tourism sector in the governorate over its first three years, elevating Ajloun as a premier destination for eco, recreational, and religious tourism.

According to Jordan News Agency, Ajlouni emphasized that the cable car has emerged as one of Jordan's most frequented tourist attractions. It was conceptualized not just as a means of transportation for tourists but as a comprehensive development project in line with Royal directives to foster sustainable growth in the governorates and leverage local competitive advantages. This venture has evolved from an "ambitious idea into a national success story," invigorating tourism and economic activities in Ajloun and enhancing the governorate's prominence on the local and regional tourism map.

Ajlouni mentioned that since the project's inception, the JFDZG has actively involved the local community by establishing a permanent bazaar for productive families, artisans, and small-business owners. This bazaar enables them to showcase products that encapsulate Ajloun's heritage and identity under the slogan "Made by Ajlouni Hands." Furthermore, the cable car has become a hub for events and festivals that have spurred tourism activity, such as the Olive Festival, Ajloun Spring, and numerous cultural, artistic, and entertainment events that attract visitors from across the Kingdom.

Ajlouni outlined that the group's vision extends beyond the cable car to developing a holistic tourism-attraction system by attracting quality investments and providing new recreational services and facilities. These initiatives aim to prolong visitors' stays and increase the project's economic returns for the local community.

The project has also fortified tourism connections between Ajloun's significant historical and religious sites, notably Ajloun Castle and Mar Elias, offering visitors a comprehensive experience that intertwines nature, heritage, history, and religion.

Public safety has been a paramount concern since the planning phase, Ajlouni noted, with the project equipped with advanced international systems and technologies used in cable car operations, positioning it as one of the region's most advanced and safest systems. The safety framework is based on three integrated operational plans for emergencies: safely returning cabins to the launch station, relocating them to the cabin storage building at the second station, or conducting controlled ground evacuations at predetermined points based on detailed engineering studies of the route's terrain.

Rescue and evacuation teams have undergone specialized training aligned with international best practices and maintain high readiness to manage emergencies, ensuring the utmost safety standards for visitors.
