Amman: The Jordanian Media Credibility Monitor (AKEED), affiliated with the Jordan Media Institute, recorded a total of 98 rumors in August, averaging three each day.
According to Jordan News Agency, the monthly report issued on Tuesday highlighted that public affairs were the most prevalent subject of these rumors, accounting for 30 rumors, which is 30.6 percent of the total. Economic and social issues were the second most common, with each category comprising 18 rumors, representing 18.4 percent each. Political issues followed closely with 15 rumors, or 15.3 percent. Security-related rumors accounted for 11 instances, or 11.2 percent, while health-related rumors made up six cases, or 6.1 percent of the total.
The report further revealed that public affairs, economic, and social issues combined constituted 66 of the rumors monitored. In contrast, political and security issues made up 26 rumors. A significant portion of these rumors, totaling 88 or 89.8 percent, originated from domestic sources, while only 10 rumors, or 10.2 percent, were traced back to external sources.
Social media platforms were the primary channel for spreading these rumors, with 66 instances, or 67.3 percent of the total, while the remaining 32 rumors, or 32.7 percent, circulated through media outlets. The report also noted that out of the total rumors, 58, or 59.2 percent, were subject to denial or clarification, leaving 40 rumors, or 40.8 percent, without any recorded denial.
