Amman-Ajloun Bus Route Starts Trial Service With 106 Daily Trips

Amman: A new regular bus service linking Ajloun and Amman began trial operations Sunday, offering 106 daily trips across three routes as Jordan moves ahead with the second phase of a program to modernize public transport between governorates. The service operates at a fare of JD1.50 and uses buses equipped with electronic payment and tracking systems, CCTV cameras, and free Wi-Fi. A total of 2,000 free passenger cards will also be distributed.

According to Jordan News Agency, Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) Director General Riyadh Kharabsheh said the trial is designed to provide Ajloun residents with safer and more reliable connections to the capital while allowing the regulator to assess demand before full operations begin. During the trial period, the LTRC will monitor ridership, passenger demand, peak travel times, and the most heavily used routes. Feedback from passengers, operators, and local stakeholders will also be used to address operational issues and adjust the service where needed.

Kharabsheh stated that the project is part of efforts to improve the efficiency and quality of public transport through modern vehicles and smart technologies, while strengthening coordination with local authorities. LTRC spokesperson and Communication and Media Unit Director Abla Wishah mentioned that the largest of the three routes will operate between Ajloun Terminal and Amman's North Terminal via Jordan Street, with 54 trips each working day.

A second route, offering 44 daily trips, will connect Ajloun with Jordan University Hospital via Sweileh and the University of Jordan. The third will run between Ajloun and Al Hussein Medical City via Sweileh, with eight trips a day. On working days, buses will operate at 15-minute intervals between 5:15 a.m. and 8:15 p.m. During holidays, the frequency will shift to one trip every 30 minutes between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The new route is part of the LTRC's wider plan to improve inter-governorate transport through regular schedules, smart transport systems, and digital services, with the aim of providing more reliable connections between Ajloun and the capital.
