Amman: President of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, Khalil Haj Tawfiq, engaged in discussions with Jordan's Ambassador to Brazil, Yazan Masaadeh, to bolster trade and investment ties between Jordan and Brazil. The meeting focused on diversifying exchanged goods and enhancing the role of the private sector.
According to Jordan News Agency, the chamber released a statement on Sunday detailing plans to organize a Jordanian-Brazilian economic forum in Brazil. This initiative will be preceded by virtual sectoral meetings, starting with tourism and extending to areas of mutual interest, to foster cooperation and partnership opportunities.
Tawfiq, accompanied by the chamber's second vice president Bahjat Hamdan and board member Amjad Suwailmeen, emphasized the chamber's commitment to strengthening economic relations with Brazil across various sectors. The aim is to increase trade and encourage joint ventures, with a particular focus on food security. He highlighted that bilateral trade reached JD186 million in the first half of this year, comprising JD163 million in imports and JD22 million in exports, mainly consisting of potash, fertilizers, and textiles. Tawfiq called for building on the outcomes of the Jordanian-Brazilian Economic Forum held in Amman last June, describing it as an opportunity to explore investment potential.
Tawfiq also pointed out Jordan's strategic position as a hub and gateway for Brazilian companies interested in regional reconstruction projects. He suggested that Brazil could take advantage of Jordan's free trade agreements by setting up production lines in the Kingdom to access new markets.
Ambassador Masaadeh acknowledged the crucial role of the private sector in driving Jordan's economic growth. He expressed readiness to collaborate with the Amman Chamber of Commerce and other chambers to strengthen ties and facilitate business activities. Masaadeh assured coordination with the chamber to advance the proposed Jordanian-Brazilian Economic Forum in Brazil.
Hamdan and Suwailmeen highlighted the importance of trade and services in fostering stronger relations with Brazil through mutual delegations and new partnerships. They emphasized Jordan's attractive investment opportunities, particularly in tourism, and committed to working with the Jordanian embassy in Brazil to ensure the success of the planned sectoral sessions.
