Amman Initiative Promotes Reading Among Bus Commuters

Amman:The Greater Amman Municipality and the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation have initiated a campaign aimed at encouraging public transport passengers to read during their commutes. This innovative effort was launched at the Jordan Museum Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) station.

According to Jordan News Agency, the campaign titled "The Book Your Travel Companion" is designed to make cultural and educational content more accessible. It seeks to transform daily journeys into opportunities for learning by providing passengers access to the foundation's e-library through a QR code displayed on BRT and Amman Bus vehicles, as well as at waiting stations.

Nabil Jariri, the City Manager representing the municipality's committee chairman, emphasized the successful public-private partnership with the foundation, which supports community and cultural development. He highlighted the initiative's potential to convert public transport into a learning space, promoting digital reading, innovation, and lifelong learning among all segments of society.

Valentina Kassisieh, CEO of the foundation, stated that the campaign reflects their vision of integrating knowledge into daily life, extending beyond traditional settings. She emphasized that reading should not be limited to leisure time or specific locations. Instead, daily commutes can become opportunities to learn and explore new ideas, thereby affirming the right to access knowledge and removing barriers to cultural and learning resources.

Kassisieh further noted that the initiative adds a cultural and human dimension to the city by making public spaces venues for creating and sharing knowledge, contributing to the quality of life in modern cities.
