Amman, An officer at the Public Security Directorate (PSD)’s Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) was shoot during an operation to raid drug dealers and smugglers, in the northern Badia.
The PSD spokesperson said that the agent was taken to the hospital and he is under treatment.
An AND team on Sunday was able to locate a group of drug smugglers and dealers, most of whom were classified as dangerous and who had gone into hiding with the start of the security campaign in the Ruwaished area (northern Jordan), and took refuge inside a house in one of the northern Badia areas, the PSD spokesperson said.
“The minute the team arrived to the scene, it raided the perpetrators’ location and they were fired at and agents applied rules of engagement with all professionalism and competence,” the PSD spokesperson explained.
“An AND agent was took a bullet in the shooting and received the necessary treatment and is still treatment,” the PSD spokesperson noted.
The security team managed to arrest a drug dealer and smuggler, in addition to seizing quantities of drugs and firearms , while others, who fled the scene exploiting the roughness of the area, are being pursued, the PSD spokesperson added.
He said that while the PSD wishes the injured officer a speedy recovery, it reaffirms that it will continue to pursue criminals who sell death and poison threatening the safety and security of society.
