Aqaba:Small and medium-sized enterprises in Jordan aiming to enter international markets are being assisted through the "Local to Global" program, hosted by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA).
According to Jordan News Agency, the program is implemented by Jordan Export House and the Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO) to enhance the export readiness of industrial and service companies, with a focus on those that have not previously engaged in exporting.
The initiative provides support to participating businesses in identifying potential markets, understanding market entry requirements, and developing the necessary capabilities to compete beyond the domestic sphere both regionally and internationally.
ASEZA Commissioner for Economic and Investment Affairs, Mohammad Abu Omar, highlighted that the program allows Jordanian companies to evaluate and prepare for expansion into new markets. He emphasized the importance of close cooperation among institutions supporting the private sector to bolster the competitiveness of Jordanian businesses and create more opportunities for growth and international market access.
Jordan Export House Chairman Maher Mahatleh explained that the program concentrates on assisting SMEs in transitioning from serving only the local market to exporting their products and services. He noted that companies need more than just market opportunities to start exporting; they must also comprehend target markets' requirements and be operationally ready to meet them.
The program supports businesses in building their export capabilities and preparing to enter regional and international markets, aiming to expand the presence of Jordanian products and services abroad. It targets industrial and service SMEs across Jordan, particularly those exporting for the first time, as part of broader efforts to enhance private-sector competitiveness and provide local businesses with a path to growth beyond the domestic market.
