Amman: Arab Bank Group reported net profit after tax of $570.9 million for the first half of 2026, up 7 per cent from $535.3 million in the corresponding period last year, while maintaining a strong financial position with shareholders' equity of $13.5 billion.

According to Jordan News Agency, total assets rose 7 per cent year-on-year to $80.3 billion. The loan portfolio increased 6 per cent to $42.1 billion from $39.8 billion, while customer deposits grew 6 per cent to $58.8 billion from $55.3 billion.

Arab Bank Chair Sabih Masri said the results reflect the strength of the Group's strategic approach and its ability to adapt to evolving regional conditions. He added that the bank remains focused on closely monitoring developments, ensuring uninterrupted services, maintaining a strong balance sheet and delivering sustainable returns to shareholders.

Masri said the Group continues to strengthen its presence across its markets, particularly in countries offering promising investment opportunities. He highlighted the reactivation of the bank's operations in Syria, the launch of an Islamic banking window in Algeria, the continued strong performance of its operations in Iraq and the expansion of wealth management and private banking services through Arab Bank Switzerland.

Chief Executive Officer Randa Sadiq said the Group continued to deliver growth in its core banking business during the first half of the year, with total income increasing 3 per cent, driven by strong growth in commission income despite regional and global economic challenges. She said the Group maintained healthy balance sheet growth of 7 per cent, reflecting its continued focus on strengthening its financial position and achieving sustainable growth.

Sadiq added that Arab Bank continued to maintain a high-quality loan portfolio and stable non-performing loan ratios. The provision coverage ratio for non-performing loans exceeded 100 per cent, excluding collateral, while the loan-to-deposit ratio stood at 72 per cent. The Group maintained a Basel III capital adequacy ratio of 17.3 per cent, well above the minimum regulatory requirement set by the Central Bank of Jordan.

She added that the bank continues to adopt international best practices in digital transformation by introducing innovative digital products and services that meet customers' evolving needs and enhance banking services across its markets. The bank noted that New York-based Global Finance magazine recently named Arab Bank the Best Bank in the Middle East for 2026, recognising its leadership in the region's banking sector.
