Arab Fertilizer Association Conference Advocates for Joint Research Center

Amman:The 38th International Technical Conference and Exhibition of the Arab Fertilizer Association (AFA) concluded in Amman with a significant recommendation to establish a joint Arab center for fertilizer research and technology.

According to Jordan News Agency, the three-day event, hosted by the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company from November 3 to 5, brought together industry experts and executives from major regional and global fertilizer producers across over 30 countries.

The conference, during its closing session, featured AFA Secretary-General Saad Abu Al-Maati presenting the final recommendations. These focused on strategic priorities such as technological modernization, operational efficiency, and reducing carbon emissions within Arab production facilities.

The recommendations further emphasized the need to maximize value-addition for regional mineral wealth, specifically targeting phosphate and potash reserves. Additionally, they called for the creation of an Arab early-warning network to monitor global fertilizer market trends, trade flows, raw material costs, and geopolitical developments.

Participants at the conference also highlighted the importance of strengthening cross-border industrial integration, expanding technology transfers, and enhancing the skills of technical personnel in areas such as artificial intelligence, asset management, and industrial safety.

The conference urged the translation of these recommendations into actionable plans, instructing the AFA General Secretariat to submit a six-month progress report to the board of directors and to draft a comprehensive sector strategy extending through 2035.

The event also featured a technical exhibition, which included over 30 specialized firms showcasing innovations in equipment, predictive maintenance models, carbon capture technologies, and digital transformation tools aimed at optimizing energy usage.
