ASE and IFC Collaborate on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures

Amman:The Amman Stock Exchange (ASE), with support from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is advancing the implementation of its regulatory framework for climate-related financial disclosures set for 2025.

According to Jordan News Agency, the disclosure guide was developed in partnership with the Netherlands and serves as a practical reference for listed companies. It helps them assess and report climate-related risks and opportunities in line with international standards, specifically the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) frameworks, IFRS S1 and IFRS S2.

ASE Chief Executive Officer Mazen Wathaifi highlighted the exchange's efforts throughout the year, which included conducting specialized training programs and workshops aimed at preparing firms for emerging ESG reporting requirements. This preparation is in advance of the mandatory adoption of these standards.

Wathaifi disclosed that nine companies listed on the ASE20 index have voluntarily submitted climate disclosure reports for 2025, marking the transitional phase. These companies include seven financial institutions and two service and energy firms Capital Bank of Jordan, Arab Bank, Bank al Etihad, Safwa Islamic Bank, Jordan Electric Power Company (JEPCO), Manaseer Oil and Gas (Afaq Energy), Bank of Jordan, Jordan Kuwait Bank, and Jordan Ahli Bank.

The reports are now available on the official exchange portal under the disclosures section. Wathaifi noted that the voluntary compliance by these key market players indicates growing awareness of climate risks and ESG factors, which are critical to international investors and sustainable finance. The ASE's phased regulatory approach aims to ensure reporting reliability and enhance market resilience, aligning with Jordan's Economic Modernization Vision.
