Aqaba: The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) on Wednesday convened a specialized workshop titled "Developing an Action Plan for Integrated Coastal Zone Management in Aqaba," in collaboration with the German Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSS).
According to Jordan News Agency, the workshop aimed to review and update the existing coastal management plan, focusing on creating a comprehensive strategy to protect and sustain the coastal ecosystems in the Gulf of Aqaba. The initiative also seeks to improve the management of natural resources in the area.
Nedal Ouran, ASEZA Commissioner for Environment and Public Safety, highlighted that the activity underscores the authority's collaborative approach to achieving sustainable coastal management. This approach involves cooperation and coordination with all relevant institutions in Aqaba. Ouran emphasized that the plan overhaul intends to balance economic development with environmental protection, aligning with ASEZA's vision of embracing modern concepts such as the blue economy, innovation, and community and youth involvement in managing natural resources.
Ouran further stated that Aqaba has become a national model for integrated coastal zone management, thereby enhancing its environmental, tourism, and investment appeal.
Ehab Eid, an advisor at HSS, noted that the workshop demonstrated the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders. He mentioned that consultations took place prior to finalizing the updated plan, and that the workshop outcomes and feedback will be submitted to ASEZA for official adoption.
