At Least 9 Dead, Dozens Hospitalized After Drinking Methanol-Contaminated Alcohol

Amman: At least nine people have died and dozens more have been hospitalized after consuming alcohol contaminated with methanol, the Ministry of Health said on Tuesday.

According to Jordan News Agency, a total of 57 people sought treatment at hospitals across the country, said Dr. Ibrahim Labeeb, head of crisis management at the ministry. Of those, 25 remain in hospital in moderate condition, and 12 are in intensive care, including six patients on ventilators.

Several others were treated in emergency departments and discharged after showing no symptoms during observation, Labeeb told Petra. He said a medical team conducted a fresh assessment of hospitalized patients Tuesday morning, and some may be discharged later in the day.

The Health Ministry has raised the state of readiness in emergency and ambulance departments nationwide in anticipation of additional cases. Authorities urged anyone experiencing symptoms to seek immediate medical attention, warning that rapid intervention is critical for survival.
