Amman: Workers of the Anti-Vagrancy Unit at the Ministry of Social Development have arrested 335 beggars since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. This initiative is part of a broader effort to address the issue of vagrancy in the Kingdom.
According to Jordan News Agency, this figure increases the total number of beggars apprehended since the beginning of the current year to 1,820. These arrests were made possible through 1,150 campaigns carried out by the ministry's teams across various areas in the Kingdom.
In a statement to "Petra," the ministry emphasized that it has intensified its efforts to combat this issue during Ramadan by operating round the clock. The crackdown especially targets commercial markets, traffic lights, and public places, in collaboration with the Public Security Directorate (PSD) and judicial authorities.
The ministry has urged citizens to direct their alms and assistance to charitable organizations and fundraising campaigns that have received official approvals. Furthermore, the ministry has announced that it accepts citizens' comments and complaints regarding begging cases via the hotline 0793344330.
