Amman: The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) on Saturday declared a mild state of emergency starting Sunday morning in response to approaching harsher weather conditions affecting the Kingdom. GAM stated that its teams are fully prepared to respond to reports received through the Tla'a Al Ali Emergency Operations Room, urging Jordanians to report incidents via the unified call centre at 102 or 117180.
According to Jordan News Agency, GAM has urged citizens to exercise caution by avoiding valleys and low-lying areas. The municipality also emphasized the importance of refraining from littering, as debris can block stormwater drainage systems, exacerbating potential flooding issues.
In preparation for the impending weather, GAM has advised the public to ensure that submersible pumps in basements and ground-level shops are functioning properly. Business owners are encouraged to take precautionary measures when storing goods in warehouses and areas below street level to prevent damage.
Additionally, GAM has called on contractors and project owners to secure construction materials to prevent them from being washed away and obstructing drainage networks. These measures are aimed at minimizing the impact of the expected severe weather conditions on the infrastructure and residents of the region.
