Amman: Official and labor bodies across the Kingdom issued safety guidelines on Sunday, urging employers, farmers, and business operators to take precautionary measures to protect workers, livestock, and food supplies during the ongoing heatwave. The General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU) urged economic facilities to strictly enforce occupational health and safety standards.
According to Jordan News Agency, the GFJTU highlighted the need for employers, particularly those with outdoor laborers in agriculture, construction, and service sectors, to avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours. Employers were urged to adjust work shifts, provide cold drinking water, offer adequate rest breaks, and supply protective equipment to ensure the safety of their workers.
In the agricultural sector, the Sahab District Agriculture Directorate advised farmers and livestock owners to take special precautions. These include adjusting irrigation schedules, avoiding spraying or fertilizing crops during the midday heat, and ensuring that animals have sufficient water, ventilation, and shade. Sahab Agriculture Director Hussam Hayek emphasized that adhering to these guidelines will help minimize losses and safeguard agricultural production.
Meanwhile, local authorities have tightened public health oversight in response to the heatwave. Jerash Governor Malik Khreisat directed inspection teams to intensify monitoring of markets, food businesses, and school canteens to ensure food safety amid the high temperatures. He warned that legal action would be taken against any violators of these safety measures.
Officials emphasized that complying with these safety measures during extreme heat is a shared responsibility to protect public health and maintain economic productivity.
