Awareness Campaign on Cornea Donation Launched at Al-Bashir Hospitals

Amman: Al-Bashir Hospitals hosted the launch of a national awareness campaign on Thursday, emphasizing the importance of cornea donation. The event, held under the slogan "Give Light to Others," marks a significant initiative aimed at combating vision loss in Jordan.

According to Jordan News Agency, the campaign is organized in partnership with the Jordan Eye Bank, the Friends of Jordan Eye Bank Association, Rotary Club of Amman - Ammon, with support from Germany's Rotary Club Aalen-Heidenheim and Rotary International. This collaborative effort is designed to equip the Jordan Eye Bank with advanced medical technology that divides donated corneas into two parts. This innovation is expected to increase the number of beneficiaries per donation and help reduce the waiting lists for corneal transplants.

The campaign sees participation from specialists across medical, legal, and religious sectors, alongside local community representatives. This broad collaboration underscores the collective commitment to ensuring the campaign's success. Zaid Faouri, Director of Public Relations at Al-Bashir Hospitals, highlighted that cornea donation extends beyond a medical procedure, serving as a humanitarian endeavor that brings hope and vision to those who have lost their sight.

The primary aim of the campaign is to raise public awareness about the importance of cornea donation after death, fostering a culture of humanitarian giving to restore sight to patients in need.
