Amman: The Council of Ministers convened for its weekly session on Sunday, during which it approved a comprehensive array of legislative and administrative measures spanning multiple sectors.
According to Jordan News Agency, the Cabinet sanctioned a draft law amending the Official Gazette Law of 2025, originally issued in 1949. This amendment is designed to modernize the legal framework, granting the electronic version of the Gazette equivalent legal status to its printed counterpart. The updated law provides for the Gazette to be issued by the Prime Minister's decision when necessary, supplementing the existing publication schedule.
The Cabinet also endorsed the 2025 Planning and Regulatory Bylaw for the Greater Amman Municipality. This new bylaw presents a modern, integrated approach to urban planning and zoning, addressing the city's burgeoning population. It seeks to achieve economic, social, and environmental objectives by simplifying procedures related to land subdivision and development rights, while ensuring transparency and public engagement through institutionalized public hearings.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved the executive plan for the National Strategy for the Elderly (2025-2030). This strategy aims to enhance the quality of life for older persons by improving healthcare services, expanding home and institutional care, and increasing participation in public life. It also includes the creation of elderly-friendly environments and a national database for policy planning, along with enhancing coordination between governmental and civil society organizations.
In the realm of transportation, the Cabinet approved updated road and traffic regulations, including an amended Road Traffic Services Allowance Regulation for 2025. This regulation supports the use of alternative roads, promoting public-private partnerships to alleviate traffic congestion and stimulate local development. Furthermore, the Cabinet sanctioned an amended Driver Licensing Regulation for 2025, standardizing the validity period of all driving license categories to 10 years and mandating annual driving permits for certain vehicle operators to improve road safety.
The session also addressed international cooperation, with the Cabinet approving two memorandums of understanding (MoUs). The first is between the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and Slovenia's Ministry of Digital Transformation, aiming to foster collaboration in digital transformation and related fields. The second MoU is between the Institute of Public Administration and Syria's Ministry of Administrative Development, focusing on capacity building and human resources development to aid Syria's post-stabilization reconstruction and governance efforts.
