Aqaba: Government Communication Minister Mohammad Momani announced a series of decisions taken during a cabinet session in Aqaba. The session resulted in several significant approvals and regulations aimed at boosting economic activities and modernizing legislative frameworks.
According to Jordan News Agency, the cabinet approved tax settlements between taxpayers and the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) for outstanding claims from the year 2022. Taxpayers are required to settle their dues within two months, a move designed to stimulate economic activities in the zone and allow violators to rectify their tax status.
Further decisions included the endorsement of a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) involving the Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) and other maritime entities. This agreement is intended to ensure the continuity and stability of maritime services in Aqaba, particularly at the natural gas port. It also aims to enhance the public-private partnership and empower Jordanian workers in the maritime sector.
In a bid to attract investments, the council approved mechanisms to grant Jordanian citizenship or five-year residency to investors. The criteria include purchasing shares in Jordanian companies or establishing investment projects in key economic sectors. The decision also covers existing investors who meet employment criteria in various regions of the Kingdom and regulates procedures for investors' families.
Additionally, the cabinet approved amendments to the Official Gazette Law of 2025, aiming to modernize it in line with legislative and technical advancements since its original issuance in 1949. The amendments propose a standardized mechanism for publishing the Official Gazette.
In the health sector, the cabinet approved regulations for the Health Beauty Profession and Embryology technician regulations for 2025. These regulations outline the licensing conditions, duties, and operational guidelines for these professions, ensuring a robust legislative framework for their practice.
These decisions reflect the government's ongoing commitment to fostering economic growth, improving legislative processes, and enhancing professional standards across various sectors.
