Biden to deliver State of the Union address on March 1

The White House said U.S. President Joe Biden will deliver his State of the Union address to Congress on March 1, a date that comes several weeks later than the speech usually occurs.

White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters aboard Air Force One that Biden had accepted an invitation to address Congress extended earlier Friday by U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

This is the first time in U.S. history that a State of the Union address or annual message will be delivered in March; for most of the past century presidents delivered their annual addresses to Congress in January or February, according to the House historian.

Former President Donald Trump announced Tuesday evening that he would cancel the press conference scheduled for Thursday, the one-year anniversary of the Jan. 6 insurrection. When asked earlier on Tuesday about the conference, Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-West Virginia) said, “I don’t think that’s a good idea. I guess it depends on what he’s going to say. But early assumptions are that it’s going to be an aggressive stat…

Published by
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

PITTSBURGH — Under a fixed roof and with a thermostat set in the 70s — maybe not the way the game was originally played but certainly a way that discourages frostbite and other cold-weather-related ailments — the Blues got back to work on Wednesday night in PPG Paints Arena. As hot as the Blues may be, the Penguins may be even hotter, taking an eight-game win streak into the game, and it was the Blues who were dispatched into the cold, dark Pennsylvania night after a failed challenge of a Penguins goal led to a power play and another goal 12 seconds later, which that quickly turned a Blues lea…
